Not the best location for the town centre being just on the edge of my 'happy' evening walking distance. Nice little town with historic paddle steamer and enough heritage for a day or two. Stopped in on Wanganui because I was interested in the vibrant art scene I had heard about - wasnt dissapointed. Simply awful. The receptionist was eating a hot meal on the front desk when we arrived (charming). There was a cockroach in the bathtub. The shower head was broken and kept popping off (even though the water pressure was abysmally low). This place has superior rooms in the main part of the hotel and motel style outside rooms. The superior rooms were old and the bathrooms were small.The furniture was worn and needs replacing/maintaining. We really enjoyed our stay at the Kingsgate Hotel in Wanganui and cannot overstate what a fabulous experience we had at both the hotel and in Wanganui itself. Had a lovely overnight stay at the kingsgate, rooms are clean and well presented a little old fashioned but much better than i expected. great friendly service and BEAUTIFUL food in the restaurant! Had a lovely stay and would most certainly stay there again if was ever in Wanganui. :) more
