This is a great place to stay in Wanganui as it's so centrally located and so redolent of the history of the City and indeed the whole Wanganui area. We could visit the cinema, the shops and various restaurants in the city at our leisure. The rooms have been done up nicely and our renovated bathroom and shower was well-appointed.... More

Really enjoyed staying at the Grand Hotel. Our double room was bright, clean and spacious and very comfortable. The free WiFi is a brilliant bonus and worked throughout the hotel, and the staff we very helpful. We ate for two nights in the downstairs Irish Bar and the food there was nice, nothing special but good enough for a quick... More

We, the family of 5 chose the Grand because it was handy to everything but that was awesome, checked in to our rooms, one room the TV was working fine but our room couldn't get anything going on TV, my husband then rang reception requesting for the TV to be fixed & the respond was the man can do it... Located near shops and waterfront. We enjoyed a lovely night in the Govenors Suite oozing old fashioned style. We ate in the pub and found all the staff happy and helpful. Beats staying in a sterile, cold motel. This hotel is warm and inviting. Nice surprise. Bed was comfortable and room was spotless.

My sister and I stayed in the Grand for 4 days. We had a spacious room with a queen bed and a single bed (room 110) and there was another room leading off ours if a family booking had been made. A sunny room overlooking the street on the second floor. We did find there was noise from the street... More

We were two married couples, looking to stay, as we usually do on our motorcycle trips, in a historic, iconic Kiwi hotel. Most are pretty seedy but the Grand has been beautifully restored along with modern comforts like good beds, modern bathrooms, etc. The prices was very reasonable, especially with a buffet breakfast included. The meals were excellent and the... More

It is so good that hotels of this vintage are being saved. It is lovely to be able to take a step back into the past with its quality woodwork and surrounds. We had a lovely refurbished room with a very comfortable bed. The bathroom was nicely updated and we had fluffy white towels. There were tea and coffee facilities... More

We traveled NZ for a month staying in hotels/motels/B&Bs/holiday parks. Our one-night stay in this hotel was the worst of any we stayed in. The "new" addition room we stayed in had HEAVY visible dust, was dingy, poorly outfitted and noisy. Hotel staff have apparently been cut to the bone with no one at the front desk after hours and... The hotel itself is very grand and well presented. The owner/manager was very pleasant and placed us in a large room which was great of him. We were situated at the front of the hotel which had a bit of road noise but wasn't really a problem. We ate in the restaurant and found the meal very nice. There is... More

We stayed here for one night, the initial impression of the hotel was positive as it has a very grand lounge and dining room. The room however was a slightly different matter. It did feel like you'd stepped back in time with carpet on the walls and a strange selection of lamps and lights all with bulbs that were were... More

Thanks for taking the time to review your stay, We are moving through the rooms and changing too eco long life bulbs and we will take the time to matching them to the shades, this is as the bulbs need replacing.
