My wife and I stayed for 2 nights in 1 of their 3 bedroom chalets on the beach. The accommodation itself is not new or very modern but we found it very homely and extremely comfortable. the beach is a pebble beach so not much good for swimming but the view from the chalet is awesome. The welcome we got... More

Last week I went to Thames for a Hospital procedure and my wife and I stayed 2 nights at the Sunset Motel. We have travelled around the world and while Sunset is hardly the Savoy it is comfortable, has Sky, and is well resourced with kitchen equipment. Furthermore the staff are very friendly and came to see me after my Hospital visit... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here starting with a helpful owner checking us in. Nice to be out of town and therefore quiet. Great sunsets. Nice clean unit . Tea and coffee and milk supplied as well as soap and shampoo of course. Loved it . Thank you !

Staying at the Sunset Motel is the first and only time we have stayed at Thames. Compared to accommodation throughout the rest of the north island, this motel seemed really overpriced. However, I think that Thames must be an expensive town to stay in, as the Sunset Motel was the only place I could find online for 3 people under... More

Going on the other reviews we must have got the raw end of the deal. The owner demanded payment before we saw our unit which was just as well. Anybody viewing it would move on. The studio room has a sunken in the middle couch too uncomfortable to sit on, carpet and bedding and bed from the 70s or 80s.... More

I wish we had discovered this delightful motel earlier than on our last night in New Zealand. The hosts were lovely and had upgraded our booking. The cottage/unit had everything you needed and it was lovely to be able to watch the sunset across the water and hear the waves through the night. We were able to use the laundry... More

We stayed in a studio unit, which was clean and comfortable with the usual facilities, and the other members of our family stayed in the three bedroom unit, both on the beachfront. The living/kitchen area of the three bedroom unit was quite large, with a full size fridge and oven in the kitchen, with the usual facilities expected in this... More

The Sunset Motel is on the sea front in Tararu, it is the only motel in Thames with direct beach access and wonderful views over towards Auckland. My husband and I stayed here for 12 nights while on holiday from the U.K, we chose the Sunset Motel for it's wonderful location and value for money. The rooms are very spacious... More

My partner and I (plus several other family members at different times) stayed for a week in Garden Unit 5 over the Christmas period. From my first contact when booking the motel, and right throughout our stay, the service from staff was outstanding. The most amazing instances of this were: - being allowed to shift the furniture to suit our... More

Very friendly, clean and tidy studio. Lovely setting understand why its called the Sunset motel. Handy for Thames and Coramandel peninsular. Thames has plenty of nice eating places. Visitors should visit Miranda which is located on the estuary opposite Thames lovely natural hot spa pool resort, went on a weekday empty. Only downside was cooking facilities limited, but we got...
