When my we stayed at Sunkist we did not enjoy the vibe. The hostel was OK in general but the beds were the worst thing EVER. I considered myself lucky but my two friends ended up with bed bites all over their bodies. On top of it all the manager seemed polite at first but ended up being magnificently rude... More

I have stayed at Sunkist on a few of occasions. From Sunkist I have: completed the Pinnacles Walk, Sunkist offer transport too and from the start of the walk. Used Sunkist as a base to explore the beaches and small towns in the area, Last time I went to do the Rail Trail I hired a bike from Sunkist and... More

Lovely old hotel, beautifully restored, but that's the extent of the positives! The 'hostess' was incredibly rude! Moaning and arguing from the moment we stepped through the door! Yes we were late, but we rang in advanced and what sort of accommodation business stops accepting customers at 8pm on a Friday? After moaning about that she argued for over 10... More

BEWARE! unpleasant experience... The building and furnishing is nice but the hospitality and common kindness totally lacking. Just ask them why they were asked to leave the BBH network... The woman running the place would be better of running a B&B where you can charge a premium; here you get the feeling your just a burden and not paying enough.... More

Lovely hostel with beautiful big garden. Breakfast provided was basic, but nice and all you need. Rooms were comfortable and the bathrooms were clean. Staff were friendly and helpful. Very cute dogs and cats living at the hostel.

I had a relaxing stay in Thames thanks to the Sunkist hostel. Room was clean and comfortable and common areas spaciousness enough for all those staying. I was surprised by how warm and quiet the hostel was for a historic building, a credit to the care taken by the owners over the restoration. The location was perfect, walking distance to... More

Thanks so much Craig and Sheryl, You were so helpful and your Hauraki Rail Trail service was great - from bike hire to dropping me off at Waikino so I could get the most out of my cycling experience. Much appreciated.

I have not stayed in a backpackers for years. I was rather nervous. Thanks Craig and Sheryl for welcoming me into your backpackers and for arranging my transport to Waihi so I could ride the Hauraki Rail Trail back to Thames. You made my stay easy and pleasant. You have a lovely place.

When I started to travel with two mates I met in NZ, our first stop was the Sunkist in Thames on the Coromandel Peninsula. The building is very cool as it has been an oldschool hotel in the past, also there is plenty of space to park your car and the garden is just beautiful. We checked in and were... More
