This was mine and my boyfriends first stop along a 3 month journey around Australia and it is fair to say this is by far the worst hostel we had to endure! Never again. From the rude, arrogant staff who ignored us continuously throughout our stay to the dirty rooms and the awful facilities this is a place I would... More

Booked a double room here with my partner, don't let the pictures on here fool you I think they have one nice room just for pictures. We came into our room to find a broken bed with no sheet and pillows older than us. We ended up sleeping with the mattress on the floor. I felt cleaner before I got... More

Very social hostel. Loved the roof and common area. I made great friends here and it's really easy to meet new people. Very helpful and friendly staff. Also perfect location in st kilda. Close to tram station and beach. I definitelly recommend staying here.

I stayed at coffe palace backpacker because everything else was booked out in Melbourne! No wonder this one wasn't! A really messy place with weird people, including rude staff, horrible beds and the worst: just a few showers that have water at all, most are dirty and broken and so are some toilets. Certain hostels get certain people in and... More

Completely over priced for what you get - Lumpy Raggy pillows Uncomfy beds Unclean room Leaking windows/walls - the rain started coming through down the wall through the night - soaking the duvet Disgusting bathrooms.. Never got cleaned the whole time we were there. - the staff are rude, arrogant and seem to all crowd around the front desk doing... More

DO NOT stay here. Me, my brother and my friend have stayed here for about a month now purely for the fact we couldn't be bothered to go anywhere else. When I first came, I stopped in a bottom bunk because the bed above me was broken. ALL of the beds are extremely squeaky and if you turn over in... More

Stayed here as a last minute trip to Melbourne. I do feel it was slightly over priced for what you got and really it was the toilet and shower facilities that let this place down. The building has lots of character and the 24 hour reception is really helpful and makes you feel safe. We stayed in a double room... More

I LOVED this place!! Ok, it's no 'palace' the building is old and needs a bit of modernising but it's clean. Some of the fellow room mates weren't though!! (But you get that in every hostel!!) The atmosphere in this place is fab! From arriving, I felt really welcome and like part of a huge family (staff and backpackers alike).... More

Loved this place! The free pancakes were awesome! There was nothing better than crawling out of bed in pjs and heading to the kitchen to load up on the stuff. Very tasty! The building could use some work but I thought it was a pretty cool one. Large and definitely had character. The morning staff, Gav and Jane (pretty sure... More
