As a solo traveller I was a bit intimidated by the locals near this hotel so that would be my only warning. But the staff were wonderfully helpful, the rooms clean and the location great. Because it's an old building it was quite noisy. It may have been because my room was by the stairs and people would stand outside... More

if you want to be close to the beach and stretch your legs, grab a cycle or go to the Palais theatre ...it is the perfect stop. Friendly caring and they stop and go the extra mile for you - well kept and even though the hotel is slightly old, the art gives it strong character and fun. The restaurant... More

Stayed overnight for a local show, the location is excellent, with public transport on the doorstep and reasonably priced parking nearby. Have stayed before, about 3 years ago and was pleasantly surprised to find we had a renovated room, with a lovely large bathroom. Due to the nature of the building, the rooms all differ somewhat. Love the art work... More

Booked in for two nights as a birthday treat as we wanted to be close to the beach and a few eateries we'd planned gatherings at. Great for those locations. Got to our room and my heart sank. Yes, the hotel was trendy and artsy and so was the room, but it was also extremely dark. very dark colours everywhere... More

Dear CurlyandCherie, Thank you for writing such a thorough review of your experience at the hotel. We are very pleased you were able to move to another room that suited you better. The rooms in the hotel vary a lot in their size, colour, the style of the artwork, and the furnishings. It is quite understandable that some rooms won't... More

We have stayed there every year for the last 12 years when we go to Melbourne for the Formula 1 Grand Prix. Great location-15 minute walk from bed to grandstand Tram to the city at the front door, lots of places to eat, rooms are smallish but enough for a 4 day stay. Great helpful staff.

Hello Trevor J, Thank you for writing about your regular stays at Tolarno's . It wouldn't be the same if you weren't here over the Grand Prix! We really enjoy having regular guests who use the hotel as their base. The Australian Grand Prix is an exciting time in the area; as the race track is very close by and... More

Me and my husband stayed at this hotel a few weeks ago for 7days. It's convieniently located within a very short walk of St kilda shops and restaurant. There's also tram lines right in front of hotel for easy access to get to Central city Melbourne. The hotel has lovely helpful staff. Some rooms facing Fitzroy street can be slightly... More

Hi newsha10, Thank you very much for your review. We were very happy to move you to a quieter room during your stay; sometimes it's hard to imagine what it will be like at night in the hotel, particularly in a balcony rooms, when making reservations. We will always try to assist whenever we can as we really want our... More

A quick getaway in a "local" suburb is a luxury and in this case a privilege. This hotel puts you right in the heart of St Kilda with pier, pubs and plenty to do right at your doorstep. The hotel is not a grande style, so if this is what your're looking for keep moving along. This gives you a... More
