I've stayed at the Tolarno many times over many years. I simply enjoy the casual elegance of the place. Its History: George Mora bought the hotel as a restaurant, art gallery, studio and home in 1966. His wife Mirka's (one of Victoria's best-known and loved artists), & others eclectic works adorn the walls complimenting the colourful range of accommodation...The excellent... More

A Melbourne native, stayed here due to a wedding and not wanting to deal with cabs, etc. room was tiny, right next to stairs, uncomfortable bed-and $160?! Had 3 various bags when checked in, guy let me in and didn't offer to assist with one? Better places to spend your dollars locally. More

A cute place, clean but a little dated. Unfortunately it doesn't have a lift so if you are on the 3rd floor it is a bit of a hike, especially with your luggage. If you can cope with the stairs be sure to request a room at the back of the hotel if you want peace and quiet. The front... More

Stayed here for one night in November. Paid for just a standard room. We asked for a quiet room, not sure if we got it or not but it was in the back of the hotel behind registration. The room was VERY small, and the bathroom was pretty bad. no room to place anything, the shower was old and left... More

Stayed 2 nights. Found the location perfect, easy to get into the city or to walk to St Kilda attractions and restaurants. Upstairs room near the front, no view, room was on the small side but quite comfortable. No issues with noise. Bathroom was somewhat dated and I drew management attention to a plumbing issue. Could use a bench in... More

This hotel was the perfect antidote to the previous night's stay in a 4 star chain hotel - also in St Kilda. I had a balcony room and as I live in the inner city in Sydney, the street noise (remarkably muffled when the door was closed) didn't bother me. As I travel light, no lift also not a problem... More

We stayed at this hotel for three nights and have no genuine concerns. Having read complaints about noise on this website before, we did not come across this at all and we found the rooms to be large, clean and well-suited for a hotel stay. Staff were friendly and helpful at all times, with the only really complaint we have... More

As I grow older, I find I am more demanding with hotels. In college, I was happy for a place to sleep out of the rain, and maybe hot water to shower with. As I approach middle age, I find I demand more things. Like electrical work that won't kill me, and basic appliances that work. Unfortuantely, Hotel Tolarno failed... More

We spent 3 nights at the Tolarno and requested a quiet room after reading comments about excessive noise. Our room (203) was long and thin and at the very back of the property. As requested it was very quiet. The hotels funky colour scheme and art works lend it a lot of character although it certainly shows signs of having... More

We chose Tolarno because we were going to a concert at the Palais Theatre and wanted somewhere close by to stay. We really enjoyed our stay. The staff were friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is cosy and quirky. The artwork, colour schemes and personal touches make it feel really special. It was really clean and well presented. The bed was... More
