Such a shame as this beautiful building has all the charm and grandeur of days gone by. However $10 toilet seats and cheap bathroom fittings do not a grand lady make. We were very lucky to be upgraded to a larger room however so many of the original features had disappeared. The communal areas are all beautifully preserved, if a... More

Having lived and worked in this area many years ago I had seen the Shamrock from the outside for years. In looking for a central location this is as good as it gets. Rooms are clean and functional. Stains on the carpet shows its age but no big deal. Breakfast is basic with fruit, cereal and toast. No complaints and... More

We traveled by train from Melbourne and walked the 900 metres to the Hotel and from the moment we booked in at Reception to leaving the following afternoon, we felt pampered. Located in the historic section of Bendigo, amid cafes, parks and trams, our room was on the third floor with views to the south and west, large lounge area... More

A combination of modern comforts (en suite, beds , carpets, double glazing, air con) with old world Style (high ceilings, stained glass, polished wood etc.) Location - as central as you can get. Staff - friendly and helpful. Booking - easy (email query followed up very quickly). Will stay there again. Only possible minus for some, the car parking is... More

Hotel Shamrock is an old hotel with a gracious and elegant atmosphere. It was updated in the 1990's and although it could do with another renovation it is very clean, lovely decor and a reminder of the elegance of a hundred years ago. The stained glass windows in the stairwell, the balcony with wrought iron balustrade and the wide sweeping... More

We stayed at the Shamrock Hotel for a girls night away to visit a Bendigo Art Gallery Exhibition. The Shamrock is a beautiful historical hotel with large, bright, clean and very comfortable rooms. It was very central to the Art Gallery and a range of great Cafes and Restaurant's like Mr Beebes, El Beso and the Wine bank, as well... More

The Shamrock's ambience is great - wrought iron, stained glass windows and imposing staircase (lift too) and it is very central to the railway, Bendigo Art Gallery and local restaurants. I asked for a quiet room and was given one. The room was dated but clean, generous sized, with all the facilities (TV, tea- making, reasonable hanging space, sofa) with... More

We just book the Shamrock on the spur of the moment with the deal of bed with spa and 3 course meal and cooked breakie for $274. Wow. The room even though small was well presented with queen bed large bathroom and corner spa. All rooms are named after important people of the Bendigo area. The meals were very nice... More

Stated here for a recent conference. Although the rooms could use a 'little makeover', this is more than compensated by the historic charm of the hotel. The hotel is full of history, the staff are very friendly and helpful. Could not be better located right in the middle of town and walking distance from just about everywhere. Shops, mall, restaurants,... More

I had booked a week ahead to get a table on the verandah for a lunch with some friends, when I arrived there was no record of my booking and I was told that "we aren't serving lunch on the verandah". We decided to stay and chose a table in the dining room, lunch was very disappointing, dry veal schintzel... More
