After several stays here have decided to comment! Ansonia has a great vibe, lovely rooms and facilities at a fantastic price. I've stayed on both business and pleasure and will make it my base whenever I'm in Ballarat. Excellent, helpful staff. Very clean and close to everything.

My 6 year old daughter and I enjoyed a Saturday night in Ballarat, staying at the Ansonia on Lydiard. Conveniently located in the middle of town, it was an easy walk from the train station. We had a very comfortable and spacious room, with a well equipped bathroom. We made use of the comfortably furnished guest lounge with a good... More

I stayed here for two nights to attend a wedding and reception at the hotel. Very convenient plus lovely accommodation, with very friendly and helpful staff. Located within short stroll of the shopping center of the city, train and bus station , theater, art museum or short drive from the Botanical Gardens. The venue worked beautifully for the small family... More

I have stayed here on two occasions for work and love it. The location is fantastic right in the heart of Ballarat and it is a beautiful historic building. The rooms are beautifully done with all you need and the hotel is always so snug and warm. The operators have gone out of their way to ensure I was happy... More

I have stayed here a number of times and the standard of accomodation and food is consistently excellent - quiet, spacious rooms with heaps of features for lounging around in all weather. The hosts are second-to-none, generous and helpful, like visiting old friends.

This is a really lovely hotel. The rooms are huge and very comfortable with really high ceilings, the staff are friendly and accommodating and the lounge room is a pleasant place to sit and relax. I don't know if I'll be visiting Ballarat again in future, but if I do I will certainly stay here.

I like old buildings and The Ansonia has a nice feel about it. There is a courtyard to sit in or the guest lounge with open fireplace which would be lovely in the winter. We had the one bedroom suite which was adequate. The bedroom was a good size and the bed comfortable, but the lounge was over furnished which... More

The photos on their website were taken a long time ago. Really quite shabby, chipped paint, marks on the carpet. The "library" has some Readers Digest condensed books & a few old paperbacks. Restaurant area very attractively done up with a lovely outside seating area, good menu.My room was pretty basic for the price, very uncomfortable bed & terrible pillows. Good... More

This is the second time I have stayed here and it was again a wonderful experience. Room was downstairs which meant my partner could go out to smoke. Breakfast was great and the overall ambience meant that there were numerous areas that we could have sat in quite comfortably to read and chat. Nice attention to detail to have Mor... More

Once a bank but now a hotel in a great location in the CBD of Ballarat. The Ansonia on Lydiard is across the road from Her Majesty's Theatre and within walking distance of the railway station and a wide selection of restaurants, cafes and shops. My two girlfriends and I had the family room on the first floor - no... More
