This is a really lovely hotel. The rooms are huge and very comfortable with really high ceilings, the staff are friendly and accommodating and the lounge room is a pleasant place to sit and relax. I don't know if I'll be visiting Ballarat again in future, but if I do I will certainly stay here.

I like old buildings and The Ansonia has a nice feel about it. There is a courtyard to sit in or the guest lounge with open fireplace which would be lovely in the winter. We had the one bedroom suite which was adequate. The bedroom was a good size and the bed comfortable, but the lounge was over furnished which... More

The photos on their website were taken a long time ago. Really quite shabby, chipped paint, marks on the carpet. The "library" has some Readers Digest condensed books & a few old paperbacks. Restaurant area very attractively done up with a lovely outside seating area, good menu.My room was pretty basic for the price, very uncomfortable bed & terrible pillows. Good... More

This is the second time I have stayed here and it was again a wonderful experience. Room was downstairs which meant my partner could go out to smoke. Breakfast was great and the overall ambience meant that there were numerous areas that we could have sat in quite comfortably to read and chat. Nice attention to detail to have Mor... More

Once a bank but now a hotel in a great location in the CBD of Ballarat. The Ansonia on Lydiard is across the road from Her Majesty's Theatre and within walking distance of the railway station and a wide selection of restaurants, cafes and shops. My two girlfriends and I had the family room on the first floor - no... More

Central location which was great. The overall feel of the hotel has a lovely ambience but bed and pillows were hard and made for a poor nights sleep. Was disappointed as the price would indicate better quality bedding. The room was quite small and made it feel like a cramped evening. Just think there is better value for money in... More

The Ansonia is conveniently located, close to the railway station, cafes and restaurants, and the Art Gallery. In its former life it was two heritage buildings , which are now connected by a lovely atrium. I had an atrium room. While I was there the restaurant was closed, which did not bother me - in fact it probably made my... More

The Ansonia on Lydiard is a delightful old bulilding on a typical wide Ballarat Street. All the building on Lydiard remind you of times gone past when people with money built to impress. There are architectural details on every building should you have the time and energy to inspect. The hotel has a lovely welcoming bright foyer, wonderful sitting areas... More

Our room was well decorated, clean and comfortable. We arrived on a very hot day and air con was already on to cool room down. This was greatly appreciated. Great location in Central Ballarat. Would return.

Stayed here last weekend as had a function in Ballarat at Craig Hotel just 50 meters away. Chose an atrium room because it was downstairs and it was perfect for our needs. The window shades need to be kept closed as the window is onto the main corridor - but we knew that. Was good to get some fresh air... More
