Went to The Lane for breakfast and found it to be a lovely experience. The venue was warm and inviting on a cold windy ballarat morning. Staff were friendly and efficient and the food was generous, delicious and well priced. Coffee and chai latte was lovely. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Stayed there for a week during a business trip to Ballarat. The newly renovated room was very nice. Coverage of the free WiFi was quite bad on the second floor. CheckIn Office of the George Hotel was closed on Sunday afternoon, so I had to check in at the front desk of the Comfort Inn which is located at the... More

What a beautiful old building, tastefully and elegantly renovated to provide comfort and accessibility to all Ballarat has on offer. Definitely recommend breakfast in the restaurant at the back of the hotel - walk through the lane, past the outdoor café to the restaurant. Only downside was the noise from the pub below, but hey, that's to be expected in... More

I don't think that you can call yourself a boutique hotel when there is LOUD live music until 1.20am. Don't get me wrong the room is very stylist but all things considered i think that you can't be both. Another thing whoever thought that frosted glass is a good idea for a bathroom wall is a fool and should see... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The George. It's a beautiful old hotel, now tastefully and thoughtfully renovated with all the inclusions any traveller would want. All the staff were extremely helpful, and the hotel's location is terrific - just across the street from the must-see Ballarat Art Gallery and several other historical buildings often seen on the set of... This grand old hotel has been completely refurbished and our room had everything we needed (and more), including a microwave, toaster, double glazing, good heating, large TV, free wi fi (pity more hotels don't offer this) and a modern bathroom. Having said this, it's still an old building, with floors that creak at times and our window looked out to... More

The George is a suitable choice if you value historic premises in a central location but can't afford Craig's Hotel. It has been updated progressively over the last six years and now offers good-sized, en suite bedrooms on the upper floors. The range of eating, bar and gaming areas on ground level is fine too, although the improvised layout is... More

We had been travelling for a week eating out at many nice food places but were looking for something a little more home like, well at The George we found it. Big helpings of lamb shanks, meat falling off the bone with tasty sauces and fresh veggies. All this in a beautifully restored 19th century hotel. To visit the hotel... More

From reception we were impressed by the attention to our every need by three generations of the managing family. The property has been artistically and tastefully restored and the food and staff in both the "Lane Restaurant" and "Cafe" were excellent. Located in the historic centre of Ballarat it was ideal for a short stay in this interesting city.

Located in the heart of Ballarat's historic precinct, opposite the city's highly regarded art gallery, this heritage property has been tastefully modernised. We stayed in a one bedroom suite on the second (top) floor which was fully self-contained, complete with shared balcony access overlooking Lydiard Street North. The accommodation is five star and the rooms well heated (we visited in... More
