I am sorry to say that the George was a great disappointment. The refurbishment is without doubt lovely, but this is where it ends. The parking is free but is located up a lane way out the back and you need to be Houdini to get into it. I accidentally put my room swipe card near my phone and it... More

We were walking past The George and saw the cafe in the laneway and thought it look great, so we decided to stop and have something to eat. We ordered a pot of tea and already made up rolls which we asked to be toasted. From there it went pear shaped. The tea took 35 minutes to get to our... More

Ate here with my partner, it was lovely. I had the steak and my partner had the ribs-AMAZING! There was a wide variety of options offered across all there sections of dining, we dined in the George itself. located just off the sturt street, it's very close to the city centre. Very good atmosphere and good value for money. Will... More

This place has had millions spent on it, and you can tell. Its a huge historic hotel in the heart of Ballarat. The location doesn't get any better. Right next to the tourist center. There are restaurants all around this hotel. And the best one is the one down the side of the Hotel called the Lane. There is car... More

This hotel seems to have been recently refurbished. The Bars are very comfortable, complete with lounging bars with fireplace and interesting historic displays. However along the laneway entrance to the hotel is a great coffee/deli/cakeshop, an outdoor area (with heaters) with a bar menu as well. Finally there is a great restaurant. The gnocchi with butter, sage and woodfired pumpkin... More

We stayed here Friday and Saturday nights. Yes, a bit noisy, but what do you expect in the middle of town? Definitely not rowdy, just people having a great time. Meal downstairs in bar was spot on, excellent steak with creamy mash, yum! Rooms very clean and nicely appointed.

Plenty of old-worldy character yet with all modcons needed, this Ballarat Original is well worth a stay. There's a tie-in with the local RSL with memorabilia and photos of old soldiers adorning the walls - all very interesting and they add to the character. Rooms are large and comfortable. Our bathrom was separated from the bedroom itself by a frosted... More

We stayed 2 nights in a suite on the 2nd floor. On arrival we were amazed at the beautiful decor and the huge area of our rooms. The bedroom is separate from the lounge and has a good sized bathroom. The loungeroom has a mini kitchen with hotplate, oven, microwave, sink, washingmachine and fridge. The staff are very friendly and... More

Well for an RSL this is a great hotel. The food was good value for money and very tasty. The renovation of this property has been done to a high standard. We were very impressed. This is a good place to take a family on a budget.
