The property is located just on the outskirts of Launceston and within easy walking distance of town. Great going downhill, but don't eat too much before the walk back uphill!!! Jennifer is a charming hostess who adds a very relaxed feel to this most traditional of B&B's. Quaint period furniture which has almost a colonial feel to it. It is... More

It is a very nice old colonial house with big rooms. The owner is very pleasant and there is free port and coffee/thee. Wifi is great as well. Big surprise was the breakfast! A lot of items homemade (bread, jam, lemon curd) and offered a egg service as well! We enjoyed it very much. Only reason for not giving max... More

Beautifully positioned amongst other period houses, at the top of the hill. Easy parking outside the front door. Spotlessly clean. Decor a little twee & dated, a 1980s interpretation of Victoriana, fake flowers, teddy bears & porcelain plates depicting cats. Wonderful breakfasts including homemade bread, yoghurt & jams, carefully cooked smoked, bacon & eggs with a wide choice of extras. Room... More

We 3 were blessed when we found Ashton Gate and Jennifer. Had a booking elsewhere in Launceston that the owners couldn't find, so without a place to stay and fortunately, Jennifer could offer us 2 rooms for 2 nights. Situated in hilly East Launceston a 10 minute walk to the centre. From the moment you enter Ashton Gate, a lovely... More

Jennifer was a kind and welcoming hostess to this pretty and quaint B&B. Located on a hill just above the main area of Launceston, it was close to things, yet still private. Rooms were nicely appointed and breakfast was extensive. Port was available in the sitting room. Our only mild complaint was that the wifi reception was limited to the... More

Just re-visited our favourite B&B in Launceston. A cold and wintry night, but a lovely warm wood heater in the guest lounge, and tea/coffee plus port (him) and muscat (me). Our room is decorated in Wedgwood style, and looks very period, but the electric blanket is also welcome. Breakfast was as usual wonderful, choice of eggs (poached - him, scrambled... More

There is little I can add that others have not already said in their reviews. It was a beautiful palce to stay and I would stay there again in an instant. The house and all it had to offer made up for the cold wet weather outside during our stay.

You'd have to fall for Ashton House solely for the facade... a wonderful late 1800s home, verandah, white picket fence, masses of beautiful roses adding charm, fruit trees and vegetable garden that provide produce for the excellent hearty breakfast. The house pedigree is known and documented for visitors to read. All the rooms are individually named and themed, spacious and... More

We had a wonderful stay at Ashton Gate. Each room has a personality of it's own that fits the Victoria charm of the house. We stayed in William, and were very happy with the accommodation. Home made bread, stewed apricots and lemon curd made our full cooked breakfast experience even more special! What a great way to set up a... More

A lot of thought has gone into making a stay here a great experience. Attention to detail as always makes the difference. Everything is in keeping with character and heritage of the house. The rooms are spacious and the guest lounge supplied with just about everything you can think of. Breakfast was excellent. Jennifer is an attentive and welcoming host.... More
