I will never go there again and I have also been told that it is bad after we were there. It tries to look 4.5 star on the outside but the rooms & corridors inside are an embarrassment! Room service menu was very limited considering the great variety of local produce. Chips we ordered were soggy, rubbery wedges not chips.... more

We stayed here for one night and found the room tidy but a little tired for a 4.5 star establishment. The double bed was so hard I thought at one stage of getting out and sleeping on the floor. The whole stay was spoilt by the bed which was completely unsatisfactory. It was low and of a very poor quality.... more

The hotel is centrally located, within easy walking distance of the park, river, restaurants, etc. My room was large and pleasant. The city amazed me - it has many, many beautiful old buildings, mainly commercial buildings and some churches. The guidebooks that I have read don't even begin to do it justice. The hotel staff were great; I felt that... more

Regularly stay here for one or two nights on business and chose this hotel mainly for it's closer proximity to our Launceston office. The reception staff are always courteous be always seem extremely busy and therefore seem disinclined to offer too much assistance. The rooms are tidy but the room I had last week had not been vacuumed and the... more

Have stayed on Grand Chancellor Hotels overseas and in Hobart and rate them as a reasonable experience. Judging by what other reviewers have written about this particular hotel it is no wonder that they have a no refund policy. Do not make a mistake and book this hotel or you might have the same bad experience as us more

Far too expensive for what you actually get. While the room was dated, but clean and reasonably comfortable, the room service meal was practically inedible - soggy, soggy chips and tough(!) fish. The wine list was very basic for a state that claims to be a wine destination. Breakfast was also very ordinary and I was charged $4.00 for a... more

This may be a good hotel for Launceston but i would not consider it 41/2 star. It almost seems like a family run hotel. The younger staff were helpful but the older staff seemed a little disinterested. We stayed in a superior room and got a good price. As stated in other reviews of this hotel if could do with a... more

Jun 16, 2009 | Trip type: Family

My family and I visited and stayed at the Grand Chancellor as other family had selected the hotel. Whilst the service was friendly and reasonably efficient and the foyer impressive our room was extremely poor. It was small and poorly lit at night. The beds, of which there were two were small doubles and sagged - they obviously had not... more

I paid $145 for a room, and had to pay an extra $6 for overnight parking. Didn't bother with the $26 breakfast (neither did many other guests by the look of it. Very outdated, in need on a refurb, horrid old bedspreads and pilled blankets, dark colonial feel. Lots of corridor noise. OK for one night when business travelling, but... more

I stayed at the Grand Chancellor three years ago. I returned in March this year and have to say that the hotel has improved immensly compared to my previous visit. Check-in was seamless, the staff were exceptional and management was noticeably present and ensuring that things were running smoothly. The hotel now features a few new shops which adds to... more
