Stayed here during a charity cycle from Melbourne to Adelaide. The owners we extremely kind to us and welcoming; giving a real morale boost on the long journey. Had everything we needed, especially good cooking facilities and wonderful coffee. Stay here if you're in Mount Gambier!

Our family of five spent one night at the Old Mt. Gambier Gaol. It used to be a Gaol until quite recently. It was fun. We had a six bed dorm style room which suited us fine. It is a hostel type accommodation with shared bathrooms and tv room. This was okay with us. It is definitely something different. The... More

I booked the Old Mt Gambier Gaol as a surprise stopover for myself, my husband and 3 friends, whilst travelling the Great Ocean Road and I was so pleased that I did as it was quite an experience. It is owned and lived in, by a delightful couple with a young family, who have lovingly restored the building and brought... More

Stayed one night with a group of friends. Grate experience place to sleep and a history lesson at the same time. It's basically a hostel They don't provide towels/soap etc. So if planning ahead you'll need to bring these things. Shower facility's, Community kitchen and TV Room. Plenty of parking spaces enough to fit camper vans etc. Hosts were friendly... More

This is basically a hostel so don't have high expectations of facilities, which are still fine but not hotel standard. Having said that you stay here for the experience of sleeping in an old gaol for the night. There was three of us, one an elderly lady that bunked down in our cell for the night. We all thought it... James and Mel are so welcoming and the facility is amazing. Though we didn't stay in an actual cell, we went all out in the wardens cottage and so did they. After 5hrs on the road, we opened the door to the most lovely cottage, a bottle of wine and everything our family would need for the time we are... More

We spent a wonderfully comfortable night in this unique accommodation. Jamie the owner has put his heart and soul into reforming this old building from a place of gloom to a delightful place to stay. As a host he couldn't have been more enthusiastic and helpful and we would highly recommend this establishment to any one wanting to do something... More

Came across the Old Prison by chance and glad we found it. We were met at the prison entrance by one very passionate owner (James) who has done what we would all like to do - make our dreams a reality. Lots of history here, but more to the point the cell (room) we stayed in was spotless, warm and... More

We stayed in a four bed dorm, which was in an old prison cell. It was very clean throughout as were the kitchens and bathrooms. You can do a very interesting self guided tour of the prison including lots of history on the walls of the prisons past. The owner, James was great and gave us useful tips for exploring... More

Very welcoming owner, and I loved the whole feel of spending the night here. Well kept and clean. Shared a dorm room with two teenage sons, clean, plenty of bedding and a heater, only negative is the shocking pillows, they really need replacing with better quality. Very large kitchen if staying for a few days.lovely table and benches and nice communal... More
