We stayed for 1 night in January 2015 and can't recommend the place highly enough. We were greeted by the owner James when we arrived and were struck by the friendly family feel of the place. He gave us genuinely useful advice on what to see in the local area before giving us a fascinating tour of the gaol with... More

I was on a group tour and we spent a night in jail. I absolutely loved it! James was the best host, the jail was magnificent, my whole group were so sad that we couldn't stay longer. One of the highlights of my trip for sure! Thank you so much for everything, James with family, you've done such a good... More

Stayed for one night only. Had I known how brilliant it is, I would have stayed longer. Owner James lives on site and gives you a great introduction to the gaol, short history, things to see and do in the area. Many little courtyards, immaculately clean kitchen, prison cells are now bedrooms. have their own sink and toilet, only showers... More

Loved every minute of this place - thanks to James and Family for allowing us to enjoy your home! James goes out of his way to welcome guests, explaining what the Gaol and area offer.. He even showed our kids around the veggie patches to give them something to get excited about. Gaol lovingly restored and well presented, hospitality touches... More

This place had it all - clean, gorgeous, family run hostel with very attentive and friendly service, as well as character and history. And although the cells are a touch on the tight side (it is a former goal...) they are comfortable, it is a hostel, and I've been crammed in tighter rooms in the past.  This hostel is dripping... Stayed there for 1 night..and it was a pretty amazing experience. There is quite a bit of history in the gaol. This in itself is a tourist attraction and the manager/owner James was pretty good as well. A must stay if one is looking out for a different experience

This was our first hostel since finishing our regional work and it was the perfect start to our road trip! There had been a concert the 2 days preceding our stay and the hostel was supposed to be empty. Unbeknownst to us the hostel should have been empty, but we managed to book 2 nights stay through a lesser known... More

The place is really more of a backpacker / youth hostel than a normal hotel. That said, there are private rooms as well as dormitory accommodation. We had a cell with a private toilet, but there are only two of those and mostly you have to share. There are communal lounge and kitchen areas, with wifi, and exercise yards should... More

Staying in a goal is a unusual experience. Good kitchens. People spread across different living areas so little exchange of travel info. Offstreet parting a plus. Hot showers and a range of accommodation options. Would stay there again if ever in town. Would recommend for backpackers or family. Do not know what else to say, must be up to 200... More

We had a wonderful time in the family room, the kids loved wondering around the building and the owner made us feel very welcome. It is a beautiful building, with an interesting history and atmospheric accommodation. Great for families and those interested in history. Would highly recommend it! Actually really lovely sleeping in very dark rooms!
