Fortunately we were only in transit through Mackay, and only needed somewhere to rest our heads before an early flight to Brisbane. I had a single room that was absolutely cheerless. No window, though it did have some sort of skylight. Absolutely bare bones, not even a reading lamp. Mackay itself is a little rough around the edges, seems to have a few more surly drunks than some of the other Queensland towns I passed through. Budget lodging is hard to find... more
