I have had much success with TripAdvisor. The Clarendon looks great based on the three previous reviews - central, nicely appointed, good food and a lively atmosphere. Their website looks pretty flash, too. Shame, then, that The Clarendon is basically just taking the mickey...Room rates are double what should be charged for what are basically tiring, under-maintained and poorly finished... more

The Clarendon is in an excellent location and the room was very nice. Well equipped, and one of the strongest showers I've ever had. Unfortunately, other guests were extrremely noisy and, since this is a pub, could not contact staff to help with the noise. However, good value, comfortable, and friendly. Pub noise not too bad either. more

We stayed here on a Saturday night in February 2008. It was clean, moden and comfortable. We didnt hear a peep of noise from downstairs all night. Value for money, and location - I believe this is the best place to stay in Newcastle. Also - try out the breakfast in the restaurant downstairs. Its an awesome feed. more
