The place you stay at is beautiful. Everything was clean and well presented. The hire of surfboards and boogie boards for free is fantastic as the beach is so close. Be aware of the parking restrictions if you are taking a car as the area is all paid for parking but it is free late at night and parks were... More

Stayed for just the one night, staff friendly on arrival. Room very clean and good wifi access. Great vibe in common room. Even though I had checked out, I was still allowed to use the hostel facilities during my day in Newcastle. They even provided a free BBQ!

I stayed at this hostel on three different occasions during January February and March 2014. I had a private room here, and friends staying in dorm rooms and another private room also. The rooms were habitable, but not up to the standard you would expect at YHA. My private room was a waste of money.... The room was small and... More

Me and a friend stayed in this hostel for one night whilst travelling in Australia. But it was a really nice hostel very welcoming and cosy. We'd arrived really last and we'd made a mistake on our booking but they were really understanding and help us out!

We stayed in the YHA in Newcastle that was once a gentleman's club in the early 1900's. Situated a 5-10 minute walk from the Greyhound drop off it is a good hostel. It looks very vintage and the common room reminds you of something from Hogwarts. There are computer rooms just to the side of the common room with a... More

This is an odd hostel, different to all the others we stayed in Australia. It's like a huge old style house with lots of rooms. Dorms were ok but my main issue was the amount of cockroaches that I saw rubbing about in almost every room, it made me uneasy at night thinking they might crawl over me. Anyway wouldn't... More

The hostel is old and looks like its last upgrade was a few decades ago. bathroom and kitchen are clean, location is good. I mainly have issue with the cleaniness of the bedroom. found bugs on the bed. last time i stayed in YHA canberra which they provided a sheet to cover the blanket. Not in Newcastle. luckily i have... We only stayed here one night as part of our roadtrip from Brisbane to Sydney and stayed in a 4 person female dorm. This house brought me back to my days of living in a sorority house- The old architecture, dark wood and open entrance was awesome ( I think it was an old men's club). Anyways, facilities were clean... More

Had a faultless 3-night stay at this wonderful YHA. I booked a single room at the reasonable rate of $60 and was glad I did. The room was spacious, comfy, clean, quiet and had a TV for a spot of luxury. All of the communal areas are similarly impressive and the hostel itself is a beautiful old building. Managed to... More

Stayed here for two nights over the weekend and I was very disappointed with the standard of this hostel. The staff were nice enough but the room looked like it hadn't been decorated in decades. The beds were uncomfy and there was little to no atmosphere in the place. The location is good for the beach but if you enjoy... More
