We loved staying at "The Cally"! Mid winter can be pretty chilly in Broken Hill, but the warmth of Barb and Hugh's hospitality, Hugh's wonderful home cooked breakfasts, coffees, Anzac biscuits and welcoming port had us off to a great start! We found the Cally warm and cozy, the rooms very comfortable, and we loved that it was an easy... More

What a delightful cottage in what I would call a lovely street for Broken Hill. The check in was at Caledonian B&B, which was a very easy experience. We found the cottage with a well equipped kitchen including some breakfast provisions and an honour system if you wanted any drinks from the fridge. The bedrooms were well appointed and very... Lovely room and public facilities in a restored old pub. The breakfast provided is fruit, a selection of cereals, yoghurt and a selection of breads for toast, tea and coffee. A cooked breakfast is available for an additional (reasonable) charge. I would have liked muesli for breakfast and suspect it would have been provided had I asked, but that is... More

Went on a whirlwind adventure in search for the original Fury Road, what i found was one of the best B&B experiences I've ever had. Hugh and Barb gave me and my mates every comfort, stayed up late to see us in after we broke down on the road, prepared a breakfast basket, and even baked anzac biscuit for return... More

You know DoctorBlue117 when I read your review I thought "Isn't that terrific - up there with the best of your experiences". When people appreciate the 'extra mile' we are willing to go to, it all seems so worthwhile - Thanks and cheers Hugh and Barb More

This old hotel was operating before the 1900's and you can feel the pace of miners coming and going as their shifts end. The old stone work shows the labour that went into building this. Pause and look around you to see and almost hear what was happening around you and as people walked past. We had a twin bedroom... More

Stayed here with 4 friends - going on a crazy road trip from Sydney to Broken Hill over 3 days ~ we had a bit of disaster on the way, ran out of fuel and luckily rang ahead and got a closing gas station to leave a drum of fuel in front of the pump for us, the lovely couple... More

We were traveling back from Brisbane to Perth (me, my fiancé and our 3 y/o boy), we managed to make it to Broken Hill but hadn't arranged any accommodation. I Googled accommodation in the area and unfortunately the first 5 places were fully booked, the Caledonian was next (it was nearly 8pm). Hugh answered the phone and we were in... More

In mid-May 2015 we were taking refuge in Broken Hill, out of the rain and cold, and luckily for us we came across The Caledonian B&B. Barbra and Hugh were marvellous hosts, welcoming, warm and informative about local and wider history. The Caledonian is an interesting building, warm and comfortable, and breakfast was a real treat. The Anzac biscuits were... More

Thanks 474kenh for your prompt review - we are indeed fortunate that we have a small B & B which is pretty exclusive - a maximum of 10 guests at any one time. This makes it possible to give a high level of service and the result is lovely people such as yourselves find their way to us. We are... More

Barb and Hugh made my adventure to Broken Hill memorable and relaxing. From the moment Hugh collected me from the train, after the 13.5 hr trip from Sydney, I knew I was going to feel at home. Hugh's amazing Anzac biscuits and breakfast (porridge to die for) started each day. Sitting at breakfast chatting with other guests or Hugh was... More
