I spent two nights at the Caledonian. It was a great base to explore Broken Hill and Silverton and the accomodation was comfortable and clean. It was close enough to the city centre to be able to stroll to a restaurant in five minutes but set on a quiet corner. Hugh was a great host with lots of local knowledge... More

Having grown up in Broken Hill I would stay with my parents on return visits, but now that my parents have died there is no home to stay at. The Caledonian has become my home in Broken Hill when I now make return visits there as the owners make you feel like a very welcome member of the family. I... More

Great greeting by Hugh and Bard on arrival, made you feel welcome and at home. Lots of great advice on places to see and recommendations for restaurants, all within walking distance. Early starts meant an early breakfast. Hugh was up to the challenge to create the perfect cooked meal to keep us going for the day :) Definitely be back... More

My Daughter and I stayed in the Blue Room at the Cally for three peaceful nights. Hugh and Barb are so friendly, and their service exemplary. It was my first holiday in 30 years and I couldn't have asked for a better 'home away from home' to come back to after the enjoyment (and exhaustion) of the day trips we... More

My husband and I stayed at the Cally for several nights whilst exploring Broken Hill earlier this year. We had a great time visiting the area and this was made so much better by our Cally experience. Rooms were comfy and clean. The lounge and dining area is lovely with heaps of character and we felt right at home when... More

My partner and I stayed at the Cally on our way from Adelaide to Queensland. We didnt have the pleasure of meeting Barb but Hugh was a great host. The room was beautiful and the entire B and B had the most relaxed and peaceful atmosphere. We are coming to stay again on our way back home and will probably... More

I had wanted to visit Broken Hill since reading my first Arthur Upfield book, The Bachelors of Broken Hill, back in 1983, and after 30 years I finally got there - we took dear English friends with us on the trip - they were returning to the UK after 4 years of living here and it was an emotional farewell... Thanks Sinead - Your review is most supportive and it highlights the fact that we have two "Miners Tinnies" which are next door to each other - thus being able to accommodate quite a number of guests - and although the cottages reflect the history of Broken Hill - Barb does a terrific job in making them comfortable - Thanks... Stayed here 2 nights (Sept 22/23) while exploring Broken Hill. Hugh and Barb made us feel welcome even a few months prior, when we had goofed on the reservation and started email correspondence with them. In person, they each were just as pleasant, helpful and delightful. Our room was fine and comfortable (we stayed in the Sage room) and near... More

Over many years we travelled to Broken Hill to visit ageing parents and following a most welcome call from the Cali hosts, which solved an accommodation problem for us on one of those very busy weekends that can occur in the town, the Cali became our home from home. We always found a welcome bed at the Cali, when we... More

One of several stays on our outback two-week "tour of duty", the Lavender and Lace Cottage in Broken Hill, run by the same owners as "the Cally" B&B, was like an oasis in the desert of motels and less-well appointed B&Bs: spacious, cool, relaxing, somewhere to spread out, "hang" and do our own meals on "holiday time". I would stay... More
