There is a certain amount of charm about this old hotel turned B&B although it is in a somewhat shambolic state and is a little rundown. We took the ensuite which has no privacy and it is little more than a small hotel room with a bed and bidet. The endless on-off air conditioners from other rooms outside made for... More

Well, now, as always, we will respond, particularly to bad reviews. It is always upsetting to receive a review such as submitted by Jay M. It is best not to respond when angry – so let’s put our view in a calm and considered way. This review could well fall into the category of “you can’t please all the people... More

I've travelled much of the world and meeting Hugh at the Caledonia has been a real star visit. The caledonia is full of real charm, but it's Hugh who makes it. Nothing is too hard, his brekkies were unforgettably yum and he introduced me to other fascinating locals who made my visit absolutely intriguing. Great stay!!

My friend and I spent a delightful few days in Broken Hill and the trip was enhanced in no small part by the stay at the Caledonian. The room was pretty, beds were comfortable, a much appreciated warm room for an July stay, a great bathroom, and great breakfasts. The cherries on the top were Hugh with his amazing bohemia... More

Hi and thanks to Annette R - We are happy to offer a free transfer service and as we have to be 'on deck' to book you in, we think we may as well pick you up from the bus, which gets into Broken Hill at 10.45 pm. On those really cold winter nights it is a bit of a... More

Four of us stayed here in July and were thoroughly pampered. I would endorse every nice thing already said in reviews and in summary would simply say this place alone is worth going to Broken Hill for. Thank you Hugh and Barbra. Susan

I had a lovely first time in Broken Hill and a lot of this was attributed to my stay at the Caledonian B&B. The rooms were lovely and warm and the place had such charm and comfort. Hugh, the owner, was so accommodating, friendly, passionate and full of knowledge about the town and its history. Plus he makes a damn... More

Thanks 14Lexie14 for your positive review - We have recently started to source our coffee from North Queensland - and the Maloberti family have a similar passion about coffee as we do about hospitality - so please book in and test our ability to produce really good coffee. The time spent sitting around our breakfast table is very special to... More

Warm, friendly and comfortable- just like staying in a friend 's home. The owner Hugh was very accommodating , nothing was too much trouble. He was available if needed for interesting chats and endless information, but was not "in your face". He welcomed my daughter as a visitor, and even invited her to join us for breakfast. You were made... More

My daughter and I had the pleasure of staying at The Cally for two nights in July 2014. If you want a comfortable bed, clean amenities, lovely home cooked food and very interesting hosts this is a must for any traveller. Thank you Hugh for sharing your knowledge with us. We also love Pierre. Sara & Zoe.

Lounge room was cold, heating had to be turned on manually. First in experienced a cold room. Seating in lounge was not at all comfortable with an old saggy couch that needs replacing. An Aussie continental breakfast was provided and for the accommodation price we would have expected a cooked breakfast. This was available for an extra cost. We were... More

Barb says - I’m sooo glad I wasn’t here when this guest stayed. I was in Brisbane after a death in the family and Hugh had to manage for a week by himself and, going by the other guests comments who stayed around the same time, and submitted reviews to TripAdvisor, he did a wonderful job. I could never imagine... More
