Broken Hill and Beyond. March 2013 We read an article in the weekend edition of our local newspaper titled, “Bent but not broken” an article about a New South Wales mining city, Broken Hill. I may even borrow some of the writer’s lines, even though they may be local colloquialisms. We had not visited “The Silver City” for over forty... More

Last time I went to the Desert Sands I got a very old room with a super-noisy air conditions, not very clean and small. But the food in the restaurant is good and it having any crickets in the room despite season is also a plus. The bathroom is minimalistic and extremely small and furniture was certainly at the end... We booked this motel through wotif. Room has recently been renovated, lovely surprise. Spacious room, well appointed. staff very friendly, close to CBD. Had a choice of restaurant or Bistro in the hotel next door and found the bistro had excellent inexpensive meals. Thank you for a very pleasant couple of nights.

We stayed at this motel on Wednesday 7th November 2012. The rating of four star for this terrible motel is very misleading and impossible to understand. Many motels from Perth to Queensland cost around the amount we paid of $135 per night. The rooms were one of the smallest we have stayed in during recent years and the quality of... More

Desert Sands is an apt name for this hot, unwelcoming motel. Our room felt like a cell and the poor air conditioning struggled to cool it. The room opened onto a concrete court yard designed to emulate the desert and did nothing to dissipate the heat. parking was a difficulty and fortunately few other people were staying on the night... Stayed here for business. The rooms were comfortable, clean and reasonably appointed. Room service was great and on time. Reception was very friendly and helpful. The pub which is part of this motor inn was very handy and not noisy, even on Karaoke night (which was good fun). Best part of the place was the pool and the ability to... More

Hubby and I booked on Wotif a couple of days in advance to stay at the Desert Sands as we were driving with two children from QLD back home to SA. We realized we wouldn't make it in time for reception so rang ahead and informed them and were told to pick up the key from the pub next door.... More

Phone booking taken by very helpful and friendly person, all reception staff when checking in and out were great. I asked for and was given a 'quiet' room away from street and restaurant - it was Room 12. Because it is tucked away near the laundry it was quiet, but housekeeping staff begin work early and the noise cranks up... More

I only stayed here for one night as I was travelling through. The room was nicely appointed and the bed was comfy. It looked as though it had been recently refurbished. Next door is a pub with a great bistro. The motel is only a 2 minute walk to the main street where you will also find plenty of shops... More
