The best of the best is what i can say. Recommended by my friends who had stayed there. we stayed in the Ferry Mans cottage for 2 days. The cottage is more like a private property for the guests. The owners Adnre and Allison are very freindly and welcoming. The owners have an attention for detail. Be it the names... More

Birds Ferry Lodge was our favorite stay of our entire trip to the South Island. Alison cooked us a fantastic dinner and Andre was gracious with his time and gave us some great history about New Zealand. Would highly recommend staying here, and if you do, opt for dinner at the lodge - it made for a very relaxing stay... More

This is a beautiful property right off the main road between Gerymouth and Westport. The grounds are lovely with beautiful plantings. The owners, Andre and Allison are warm and welcoming. The Inn is immaculately clean and the room is quite comfortable. I recommend you allow Allison to prepare dinner for you at the Lodge as there are not many dining... More

Our experience of Birds Ferry Lodge, both of the lodge and the associated Ferryman's Cottage was delightful each time. Attentive and caring host and hostess Andre and Allison prepared and stocked fabulous food and were unobtrusively attentive to our every need. The accommodations were simple but thoughtful and excellent, the surrounds rewardingly different and Andre guided us to local points... More

We stayed 2 nights at Birds Ferry Lodge in February and enjoyed being so far north on the west coast. Birds Ferry has amazing views (and rainbows), but the hosts Allison and Andre are what made the stay so special. They truly made us feel very welcome at their home and the breakfast and dinner were superb and plentiful. The... More

We stayed in Ferryman's Cottage - what a unique, fantastic place. The cottage and its surrounds were bursting with imagination and thoughtfulness. From the beautiful lake with friendly ducks, stunning views, homemade croissants and bread, lovely interiors and luxurious touches, to the bath outside, perched on the cliff top and adorned by candles. 'Landscape art' like we have not seen... More

we stayed at the cottage and enjoyed the private ponds and view over the mountains. we loved to have the privacy and quietness of the mountains. the only sounds we heard were the ducks from the pond, whom we fed every day. The BBQ was in use each night on the sun deck. Andre would bring us veggies from the... More

We used this as our base for a visit to Karamea and as far north as one can drive in north west South Island... a really beautiful area to explore. It is a two hour drive each way, but well worth it. Birds Ferry Lodge is remote, yet not far from the highway, so easy to get to. Lovely views... More

A bit of a challenge finding this remote paradise in dreary spring rain, so the warm welcome was, yes, welcomed. Sadly, we could only imagine the vista off the balcony but the comfort and beauty of this home more than compensated. Allison is a gifted cook, preparing one of the best meals of our 5 1/2 week trip. Her whitebait... More
