We stayed here in July 2009. This place was one of the best we have stayed at. Clean, fresh, smelled heavenly, no complaints. The linen and towels top notch. The owners were just wonderful. Only thing is if you want a bit of quiet, just beware that this place is on a busy road. We were there in the winter... More

We spent 4 days at Birchwood, and visited Milford and Doubtful sound, as well as the glowworm caves in Te Anau. Superb day trips! We especially liked the Milford Sound trip with Fjordland Tours, owned and hosted by Ray from Birchwood Cottages. His personal touch and the relaxed way of doing things were just great. That's the way we like... More

Only stayed here for one night but very impressed on arrival. The owners were not there but no issue at all as there was a phone on the office door with a direct connection to there mobile phone. We were told where the key was and left to settle in. Later on the owners introduced themselves and offered to help... More

First of all we only stayed for four nights yet we felt like there was so much more to see and do. Birchwood cottages was such a nice place to come home after exploring each day. We went for a day cruise on doubtful sound which was beautiful and amazing. We also drove out to Milford and did some bushwalking... More

The old cottage we stayed in was really an old 3 bedroom house- it was big, it was clean, it had a full kitchen and a full laundry. The cottage was extremely well appointed and located far enough away from other cottages to be private. The hosts really made you feel welcome and supplied plenty of towels, pegs, plates etc... More

We stayed for 3 nights in Te Anau in the delightful Birchwood Cottages. We found the cottage very cosy, with comfy bed and a good sized living space. The real bonus for us was free internet and free calls to Australia for up to 2 hours. This was a great addition that allowed us to catch up with family and... More

The owners Ray and partner were more than helpful. They gave us many a free ride in the van to local places , They organised appointments for us and more. The cottages are perfect for a quick stopover or to take a family for a good week or more. They have plenty of room and cottages are well spread out... More

Stayed here in Nov 2010 as our base for when we did the Milford Track. Ray and Leonie are terrific! They are both exceptionally customer focussed that it made our stay even more memorable. We organised for Ray to pick us up from QSTN - the 2 hour or so trip to Te Anau was great as Ray told us... More

We recently spent 25 days in New Zealand and one of the many highlights of our trip was our visit to the Fiordlands National Park on the South Island. We stayed at Birchwood Cottages (birchwoodcottages@xtra.co.nz) and found the accommodations very nice. The owners, Leonie and Ray, were very friendly and helpful. They also run Fiordland Tours which we used for... More
