We were very impressed with this beautiful B&B. The lodge, actually a convent school in another life, is large with expansive grounds and amazing views of the mountains and lake. Our room upstairs was nicely appointed with a modern bathroon and views to die for from our corner windows. There is an upstairs lounge for guests that provides a comfortable... more

On our 4 week trip through New Zealand Te Anau Lodge was our favourite place we stayed by far. It is a beautiful old building (it used to be a convent) with lovely rooms and furnishings. There is a great library/sitting room with a fantastic collection of books and coffee and cake. The library had stunning views of the lake... more

This was definitely the best place we stayed during our 5 weeks in New Zealand. OK it is not cheap, but it is good value and is a house with lots of history and atmosphere. As we were the only guests Matt and Chloe made sure that we didn't feel lonely! The breakfast was incredibly fresh and good, lots of... more

Te Anau Lodge was a real surprise find for us. We hadn't booked accommodation in Te Anau and found the Lodge in a guidebook and turned up quite late in the evening unannounced. Matt and Chloe welcomed us in as though they had been expecting us and gave us a beautiful room on the top floor with a spa bath... more

On a 2 week trip around NZ this was the most expensive accommodation we booked (including 4 star hotels) but reading the rave reviews we thought it may be worth it. However, we found it a tad disappointing. The lounge and dining room are nicely presented, as others have noted. Matt was amiable and obliging enough, although Chloe never appeared... more

Good Morning firstly... we must say we are really sorry that you have had a negative experience at our Lodge. We work extremely hard in a an attempt to ensure that all of our guests have a good time here and get to share in what we think is a pretty special place and it is extremely disappointing to know...

A must

There is very little one can say about Te Anau Lodge that hasn't been said before. We were in New Zealand for a month and it was definitely our best B & B. Nothing is too much trouble for Matt & Chloe. They are excellent hosts and have a knack of making you feel special. I have attached some photographs... more

This is a great place to stay. I don't know whose idea it was to move the entire convent 100 kms (dismantled into only 4 pieces), and convert it to a B+B but it is charmingly and eccentrically successful. Its physically very beautiful, the location is great, but best of all, the service is lovely. Attentive without being intrusive, and... more

We stayed at Te Anau Lodge for two nights. Owners were SO WONDERFUL. This is the perfect launching spot for treking on Milford Track and traveling to Milford Sound (we overnighted in Milford Sound and then traveled to Te Anau). The owners were just the most wonderful and helpful people. The accomodations were BEAUTIFUL, and we arrived to find that... more

Matt & Chloe were extremely friendly and helpful without impinging on our privacy. Breakfast was superb, room extremely comfortable with great views. I especially loved the lounge with open fire, library, internet access and complementary drinks and snacks. I appreciated having an all-in price for the stay without lots of extras appearing on the bill at the end. House seems... more

This is a really neat place to stay. Te Anau doesn't have many "nice" lodging options so we found Te Anau Lodge to be a great find. We stayed in the Cathedral room and the other 2 in our party were in the room across from us and both had fantastic views of the lake/mountains and wonderful 2 person whirlpool... more
