a short distance from te anau, on a hill overlooking a stunning vista of lake and mountains- the setting is unbeatable. The staff are very friendly and helpful and one feels immediately at home. The lodges afford great views and the meals/wine are all top class. But this comes at a price- but i would say overall worth the splurge. more

I loved this place. It is set back up from the road from Te Anau to Milford and has an AMAZING view across the lake to the mountains. The feeling is very much of a fishing/hunting lodge, with a lot of wood used in the construction. Rooms are nice and have many sources of heat which we didn't need to... more

What a shame that TA continues to list Fiordland Lodge in the Speciality Lodging, largely the reserve of campsites and YHAs, when it’s arguably the finest hotel in the entire Te Anau region. It is very expensive for New Zealand: our three-night package cost NZ$3200 and included room, breakfast, evening cocktail, dinner and two full-day tours to Milford and Doutbtful... more

Im the Sounds area, with a view on the Te Anau lake and the mountains above, the wooden made house is really a wonderful place. The service is really professional, the food and the wine are great. We stayed in the Chalet beside and it was really a nice moment. A special award to Connie the very friendly house dog. more

My husband and I stayed at the lodge for 2 nights in January 09. The lodge itself is beautiful and the rooms are very comfortable and very well decorated. However, the service received leaves a lot to be desired. It began upon arrival when we were told by the duty manager that he didn't have time for us as he... more

I was surprised by some review that I read about the lodge, many described the people to be cold and unhelpful however with us the case was quite the opposite, they were really friendly and chatted with us most of the time. They would regularly check if everything was fine! we were pampered as opposed to being cold. The rooms... more

We stayed here recently on our honeymoon and loved every minute. We had a private tasting menu made for us which was fabulous. The views were superb, dinners were great (usually preceded by several drinks watching the sun set over Lake Te Anau). We had no problems with staff (which were mentioned in older posts) although occasionally it was a... more

I felt I had to write to reiterate some of the comments in previous reviews. We stayed at Fiordland Lodge last year and agree that the setting and the building are both wonderful. However, the service and attitude of the staff is cold, superior and uninterested. Although the building is superb, it lacks any human warmth and all the little... more

We spent 2 nights at the lodge. It was a beautiful location with stunning fiordland views. However the staff (reception notably) were very unfriendly and I was astonished at their disinterest in our requests or questions. We would NOt stay here again - it was our only bad hotel experience in New Zealand over a 4 week trip. Pity as... more

Splendid views of Lake Te Anau and Fiordland, but very remote, which makes it difficult to use anything but the in-house restaurant. Strangely for such a highly regarded lodge with a long waiting list, we did not enjoy our stay because of the staff. Don’t know if there had been a row, but there was an atmosphere you cut with... more
