Facility itself was very nice. Cleanliness of kitchen questionable with mouse droppings in the fridge and cooking area dirty. Washrooms were very clean and so was the room. Reception service upon check in was slow. Great place to store our gear when we went on our multiday hike and a great place to dry our clothes when we returned.

Room 21, single with shared bath., clean and convenient to the small downtown. large common room and nice kitchen. nothing special about the place. it was a place to sleep, so it did the job. there is not many places to choose from in this town.

Every YHA hostel we stayed in throughout New Zealand the service was excellent. However I felt a bit let down here. At one point I went to the reception and there were two girls on duty. However, they were both messing around on their mobile phones and could not be bothered to deal with my query. They knew I was... More

Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback. I am disappointed that you have had this experience with us, it is certainly not in line with our hostel or the YHANZ visions and values. I have discussed the matter with my staff and can assure you that behaviour like this will not happen again. I am glad you... More

I stayed here for a few nights before and after doing the Kepler track. The dorm rooms and bathrooms are very clean but the kitchen is messy and gets extremely busy from 5pm onwards (not much bench space). The majority of the guests are trampers, so the hostel is very quiet and definitely not a 'party' hostel. Overall, a good... More

We've stayed here a few times as it's a great launch pad for doing walks like the Kepler, Milford etc Very central to town and close to the lake. Have stayed here with lots of kids and booked a family room which had a mix of bunks & beds and also stayed as a couple in a double room. On... More

I stayed with a friend at that yha for one night in a twin. The room was very small with two bunk beds. Unfortunately, the beds were already quite worn and uncomfortable. It was fairly cold outside and there's only this strange heater on the wall which doesn't help much - it was almost as cold inside as outside. The... More

We stayed one night in YHA hostel in lake Te Anau and loved every minute of it. The checkin was quite smooth and the two guys in the reception were quite helpful guiding us plan our activities. We booked a double room with attached bathroom. The room was a bit small and there was just enough place to walk around.... More

Very nice hotel for backpackers, with big backyard and big kitchen. Very easy to find in main street of TE ANAU, but not close enough to the shop and lake. (maybe 10mins by walk.) Room is not very big , but enough for two. also very clean and quiet. the hotel has a small car park, which can park 10-12... More

The kitchen is not suited for the number of people staying - there was only one oven which on our night there was being used by someone to slow-cook their food for several hours. Also, in order to get to our 6-bed dorm room we had to walk a couple of meters from the main building which was not that... More
