This is cheap and basic accommodation - valuable for money but no frills more

My partner and I stayed here for 1 night, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff were friendly. The room was comfortable and clean. Look forward to staying at the Kingsgate again. more

Stayed here for one night! Not value for money, decore in room was poor, fridge was noisy, spotlight outside the window made it feel like we were sleeping in daylight. Only a double bed! The view was over looking a car park, not as stated (maincured gardens)! more

The best point is the staff, really kind, helpful, ... and certainly the restaurant. The worst point is ... well ... the room old-fashion, no wifi connexion (pc available), laundry service only avaiable into "help yourselves" version, a small car park (you can find a car park at the back but no indication available). And Kingsgate is "far" from the... more

The hotel is situated opposite Lake Te Anau our room did have a view of the lake. However there was a musty smell in the room and the room was tired and needed decorating. Having said that though it does represent good value for money. The hotel is a flat easy walk into the town of Te Anau. more

Very comfortable stay. Brilliant location right on the lake and a 5 min walk on the lakefront to the town centre and the Real Journeys office (from where you can book all you Milford Sound cruise). The hotel has a very quaint feel and is unpretentious, but it is well maintained and pleasant. Reception is friendly and helpful and they... more

Wish I had stayed longer than one night in Te Anau. The township was very small - but made up for it in terms of friendliness. The staff at Kingsgate hotel were nice and accommodating. The hotel was a little further from the centre of town - but still only a 10 minute walk - but in the pouring rain... more

Ideally located a short pleasurable walk from town by the lakeside. No lift in hotel but the hotel is only two storey. Rooms good, clean, comfortable. Hotel bar closed too early as did the town of Te Anau. more

We stayed here on 31 March as part of a group tour. Having read the reviews we were somewhat concerned. However I find it hard to believe we were staying in the same hotel. Check in was efficient and our rooms were comfortable and clean. Our room contained 3 single beds, which made it a little cramped, but we used... more

First the only bit of good news. The hotel overlooks the lake at Te Anau for those lucky enough to have a room in that area. My room whilst quite large was a mish mash of furniture, curtains and carpet that didn’t match at all. No safe or air-conditioning added to my sense of desperation. The hotel was partly shrouded... more
