This is the first time I have felt compelled to write a negative review on a hotel. We've just returned from 3 weeks driving both islands of New Zealand. It was a wonderful trip and we stayed at some terrific hotels & B&B's, but Te Anau Villas was the only disappointment we had on the whole trip. At best, I... more

Hotel had fabulous view over the Lake and good location, just out of town but easy walking distance. The accommodation was OK. The decor ready for refurbishment but it was clean and had all the amenities you need as a traveller. Our bedroom was large and comfortable. The breakfasts were poor though. more

Located right on Lake Te Anau with magniicant views. We stayed out of season, had our room upgraded to a lake view suite and breakfast was thrown in free of charge. Rooms are huge, spotless and with effecient central heating , bathrooms are fully equipped. A five minute walk from the centre with a huge choice of restaurants. A perfect... more

This was an incredibly typical hotel room like here in the US. Nothing special, nothing different, just a bed and bathroom. The only good thing was a patio with a table and chairs, but it was too cold to use it. more

As part of a tour that Te Anau Hotel and Villas was supposed to be convienient for Milford Sound, It rated along side The Intercontinental, Auckland as one of ther worst places we went to. I have been in better rooms in Motels!. The tour group booked us into the cheaper rooms in the hotel. Pay more and least get... more

Arrived at the Luxor Hotel which looked like a building site - scaffolding everywhere outside the building and it looked derelict. We were booked to stay one night here as part of a tour group and everyone was a bit worried when they saw the hotel. However, the bedroom we stayed in was spacious and newly refurbished. It was lovely... more

Very expensive for what you get. The rooms are very dated with 1970s decor. Limited facilities in the room, ie no cutlery or bottle opener. Clean. Location was very convenient but possibly cheaper places to stay in Te Anau. Did not have time to explore all hotel facilities such as pool or spa so may be underestimating it. more

We're surprised this is ranked 17th in the town. We stayed at the second ranked place (Explorer Motor Lodge) and found the Te Anau Hotel to be head and shoulders above it. The hotel room was clean (although a little small) and the beds were amazing. A fantastic night's sleep was had by all. The Hotel has everything you need... more

The Te Anau is excellently located by the lakeside and adjacent to the shopping centre. The room, overlooking the garden at the rear, was a little dated but clean and comfortable. There is no air conditioning, and even with the window open the room became stuffy at night. The restaurant is very good for both breakfast and dinner. For those... more

I stayed here for 1 night on the way through to Milford. I picked the hotel on the basis of my friends who live on the South Island who reckon that this is the best of the accomodation in Te Anau for the money. The villa section is fairly run down, my toilet didn't work so they re-roomed me. It... more
