My husband booked this as it was close to Milford Sound for a trip the following day. We have done quite a bit of camping back in the UK so I wasn't put off by the basic accommodation. The cabins themselves are as you might expect - basic. If you are already camping or travelling in a motorhome you might... More

Absolutely adored this place. Our fellow bus travellers were quite turned off by the lack of electricity and other travel comforts but tucked away in the valley this place was one of the best out of my whole trip to New Zealand. Would strongly recommend the short river walk (though make sure it doesn't get dark, trail isn't marked too... More

Staying at Gunn's Camp was definitely an escape from reality. It's writhe with history and has heaps of charm, including the woodfire warmed cabins and lights out at 10pm rule! It all makes for the best stargazing I've ever seen, with more Milky Way skies and shooting stars than ever. Staff is cheerful and helpful as well, checking in on... More

We stopped at Gunns Camp as a "pass through" visit on the way back from an organised coach trip from Te Anau to Milford Sound. We drove for a few kilometres down a forest lane and stopped for about 30 minutes at the camp to look around. The camp is set beside a crystal clear stream and in a very... More

Friendly proprietors, reasonable price (for tenting), and lovely surroundings, as you are in the middle of the woods and right beside the river. Lights do go out at 10, which seems reasonable, as they generate their own energy. Lovely hot showers, nice big lounge with fireplace and screens to keep the sandflies away. However, it would have been nice to... More

A campsite full of old school charm and character yet outfitted with modern facilities and great hosts. I can safely say you won’t find another campsite like this. Loved our stay here especially the hot showers. Must admit that the wood burning heater was unexpected yet the most reliable I’ve encountered on my travels. If you’re into fur, get one... More

We stayed here for a night after our trip to Milford Sound. The accommodation is pretty old as expected. The room was quite cold and small. The kitchen was small for the amount of people staying there. We had to wait for ages to use a cooker. All the electricity runs on a generator which they knock off at 10... More

A very unique accommodation option, the surrounding bush and the history of the place was lovely to see, and also the historic cabins were pretty cool with fire places etc.. The camp was simply very overpriced for what it was, $150 per night for a very simple cabin, no cooking supplies in the communal kitchen and the cookers/lighters wouldn't work... More

It was a unique experience for sure; being in the middle of nowhere with no electricity after 10pm. I didn't wander much outside the camp but the scenery was really beautiful. It was chilly and drizzling most of the time but I managed to stay in a hut by myself without a working heater. The owners were very accomodating and... More

You know when you find a place and you feel you just nailed it? That´s the exact feeling I had when staying at Gunn´s Motor Camp. We were looking for something cheap and confortable to stay, I didn´t want to stay near the Sound, since it is too busy, expensive and loud. Gunn´s camp it is a perfect spot, you... More
