I have never had such a bad night sleep. This place has a terrible design. Noise seems to just be amplified right through the building and you hear every slamming door and conversation in the corridoor. Reception staff appear to have no interest and it's a slow process t get your key. There are nightclubs and under our room (104)... more

I did a survey for a company regarding staying at Discovery Lodge/Disco Lodge/Base as it is affectionately known here in Queenstown. I stayed one nite and surfice to say... it is now our shoulder season and a lot quieter than usual so there wasn't a whole lot of people, it wasn't crowed and the bar was not noisey. The accommodation... more

Stayed in an 8 bed dorm, was really clean and tidy and even had its own balcony to smoke out.! Beds were great and each had its own light for reading. Altitude bar downstairs was pretty sweet and had yum cheap food and lots of drink specials. I didnt find noise to be an issue but thats probably coz I... more

Thankyou for your feed back, we are always working on improving our product and appreciate any comments you have. Originally the idea behind the showers was to save on natural resources such as gas and water. We are really striving to lessen our carbon footprint and are focused heavily on sustainability, as such we went with these showers which unfortunately...

We were looking for the best value backpackers in Queenstown...and this was it. I t was a great value party place...exactly what we were looking for. DO NOT stay here if you are looking for a quiet, romantic time in Queenstown. This place is a top of the range backpackers. We had a great time and stay. more

My partner and I stayed at Discovery Lodge for one night in January. The reception was crazy-busy when we got there, but were pleasantly surprised by our large, clean double room. Unfortunately, our window faced the restaurants next door and all we could smell in our room was the odour of frying onions. Also there is a nightclub on the... more

Wonderful location and friendly staff. My husband and I stayed in an ensuite room for a ski holiday. The beds were far too bouncy and we ended up putting the mattresses on the floor. We were woken up most nights by drunks in the corridors or out on the street. Luckily we were so tired from skiing it didn't really... more

We stayed at the Discovery Lodge for 3 nights in March 2007 as part of a 10 night package to NZ arranged through a travel agent. Negatives Unfortunately, we found this accommodation the worst we stayed in while in NZ: drunken backpackers singing (?) loudly at 1 am; recycling bins full of empty bottles being collected at 3 am each... more

Don't know what other people are talking about but this has to be the best place to stay in Queenstown. It is so centrally located and even has it's own bar that has nightly themes every night if you can't bother heading outside. I had heard nothing but bad things about this place the whole trip including that most of... more

First of all this place is no more than a backpacker hostel. Our travel agent should of told us this basic fact. Our room was a twin bed with shared toilet and shower facility. On the ground floor of Discovery Lodge there is a night club called Altitude. The music starts up around 10 PM and goes through to 3... more
