We were booked to spend 3 nights at Thomas's Hotel, and booked based on a Lonely Planet review. We arrived quite late, as our drive took longer due to unexpected snow. We were "greeted" by a very grumpy and unfriendly women on the reception desk. After a vague hand waved in the direction of the ancient lift, we got to... More

This is probably the worst room I've ever stayed in! From the beginning after asking the coach driver for directions as to where the hotel was I knew I was in for a shock. Apart from the fantastic views, the room smelt of something horrible which managed to catch onto my clothes and suitcase. The bathroom was tiny and definitely... More

As others have said here, this place is a dump. "Deluxe"? Laughable at a rate of $NZD119! The bed was absolutely shocking, all decor seriously outdated and horrid... the lift was a boxcart that didn't offer ANY sense of security that it wouldn't just drop. Biggest thing? Like another had stated, they ripped us off 50% of the room charge... More

I stayed here before I got a chance tt check reviews. Was so shocked to read the reviews, this is an old hotel with budget accommodation and not for everyone. The place is clean and what a view, only place to stay in town right beside lake. If you require a graded hotel this is not for you, but not... More

Absolutely disgusting. Amongst all the dinge and tattyness this 'hotel' has to offer - the staff didn't seem to care that people were using the fire escape as a balcony for late night boozing, parties and sex. I cared as it was the other side of the broken thin pane of glass that constituted my lake view window. I was... More

While planning our trip we got overwhelmed by the amount of hotels and budget accomodation in Queenstown so for the first time in a while didn't bother to check with Tripadvisor or pre-reserve... otherwise I'd have seen the rotten reviews of Thomas's and been scared off! Having said that, we were walk-ins and exhausted, so booked a twin room for... More

Without doubt the rudest staff in the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. the first night was dreadful - the double bed was tiny, the bathroom even smaller and the noise from drunks on the street woke us up consistenly until 4am. The next day we moved out ... when I asked for a refund the receptionist told me... More

Stayed here for four nights in December with my husband as part of a three month trip around the world, with 12 nights in New Zealand. This was definitely the worst hotel we stayed in during the three months but that has to be put in context. We mostly stayed in mid range hotels and this is classed as "budget".... More

All the other reviews here are too kind with this so-called hotel. This is the worst hotel I've ever seen bar none. We booked 2 rooms for 2 nights. Barely made it through the first night. We were promised we won't be charged for the 2nd night and of course that was a lie. Ended up having to go through... More

Their website is out of date so do not believe everything it says. They do not provide any parking. The hotel's mascot Thomas the cat does not live their anymore. The Television in our room only had a "Bunny Rabbit ears" indoor aerial and TV reception was poor. Ensuite is very small. Beds were very uncomfortable, and needed replacing as... More
