To get to the rooms you first have to cross the front garden with a tiny bridge, then go upstairs were the reception and living room & kitchen are with all your bags and then go downstairs again to your room, and there is no way to go to the rooms without crossing the whole hostels and its many stairs!... Chose it because I wanted a cosy, small hostel. It was small. And the bed was nicely made up, with 2 pillows. Beds looked great but the mattress had a hole in the middle from all the travellers that slept in it before. Only 2 showers for the whole hostel. Second one right next to reception was really grubby... Door... More

I read a lot of negative reviews about this hostel, but when I got there myself,it was not that bad.I even liked it! Got a 4 bed shared room, but there was no one else.Only my sister and I. The room was the closest room to the kitchen and bathroom. My room has a nice view, I can see the gondola... More

Don't stay here it's damp and mouldy, the receptionist is one of the rudest and most unhelpful I have come across in 10years of travelling.very little heating in the building so is often freezing and staff will come in and turn heaters off.the shower is like standing in a tin shed.its not unlimited Internet.there are a lot of long term people... Small but comfy and UNLIMITED FREE WIFI was really useful! Friendly staff, cozy small lounge and always warm :) 3 days was just not enough :) Was welcomed with chocolate and towel on my bed, great dvd selection and because it had limited rooms so the place is actually kind of quiet compare with others, so a comfortable common area... Overall was a good hostel, had its good points like the great location a minute walk from the town center, free breakfast before 9.30am, very cheap laundry ($2 for washing machine and $2 for dryer), great dvd selection, comfortable beds, a little treat on arrival and a lovely fluffy big towel per guest. There was also a few negatives too,... More

The hostel is in a good location, which is a plus - close to many conveniences. The common areas are nice, too, and it does not have a party feel to it. There is also free wifi and breakfast. Only thing is that I didn't find it particularly clean; there was also mould in the bathrooms. The beds weren't very... More

Loved this place!! Was my favourite hostel in the South Island. More of a home than a hostel, could easily have stayed at Last Resort for months. A real bargin of a free breakfast, nice selection of jams, cereals and oats. The hostel is around the corner from a supermarket, the coach station and the bottom of the gondala, as... More

Little bit rough around the edges but it's charming, clean, secure and the staff are awesome. Not too big so get decent personal service and the beds are the most comfortable i've slept on in any hostel. Perfect location, just off the busy street so nice and quiet but a two minute walk from everything you'll want! Just read some... More
