Firstly, the reason for staying in Milford Sound is obvious - it's stunning and being able to wake up with it right on the doorstep is clearly a huge advantage. It enabled us to do a wonderful evening kayak trip and a morning walk and cruise before the crowds arrived. This alone is worth the money. For the accomodation itself,... More

Ok...only option in Milford and it is what it is. Nice to stay there to avoid day trip. Also allowed us to go on amazing early morning trip with Roscoes Kayaks. Nice to have cafe for snacks and coffees. Bathrooms were clean with hair dryers . Dorm was ok. I especially liked the communal area for chilling in evening and... More

I'm giving this place three stars to emphasize that it's no luxury resort, but if you're OK with that, it was a four-star experience. We stayed in the backpacker-style rooms as part of a package deal that included a kayak tour of Milford Sound. Obviously, the location can't be beat. We were surrounded by cloudy, brooding mountain peaks on all... More

We stayed 2 nights in Chalet no 4. This was the highlight of our 2 week (and 7th trip to NZ). It was well worth the price. Unfortunately we encountered rain which is normal for this area, but did not detract from the amazing views from the floor to ceiling windows on 2 sides of the chalet. The bed was... More

Stayed for a night in the 'riverside chalet' ( please note the review applies only to this room type, which is the most expensive one). The room is large and have all you can expect from a top hotel (excluding full cooking amenities ). The back of the room is amazing river, mountain and waterfall view. One of the best... More

We expected a bare basics lodge but what we got was extraordinary. While the room was simply furnished, we had a wonderful bed and glass doors that opened to the outdoors with stunning views. The bathroom was luxurious- not with a tub but with a glassed in shower and a heated floor. I remain awestruck by the simple beauty of... More

we spent the night in Milford Sound because we had read everywhere that we should avoid the day triping crowds from Queenstown. In hindsight we would have not needed to spend the night there as a day trip from Queenstown is doable no problem and yes, you may end up on a crowded boat, but the views from it are... More

The most perfect of settings at the bottom of snow peaked mountains within walking distance of the cruise ships port for Milford sound but far enough to be in total silence. I stayed in the twin room and the service the staff provided was excellant as well as the facilities for only $100. Also another note the staff went above... More

The rooms themselves were great, clean, new. Staff were friendly but lacking in knowledge (we needed to be told about chains for the car but they didn't until the following day, when it was too late). Views were stunning! Rooms were super pricey @$300/night

It took me a while to find this, which is surprising since it's really one's only option if you actually want to stay in Milford Sound. When I first booked, there were no twin rooms available, so we reserved 4 bunk beds in a dorm room to have some privacy. The lodge was kind enough to write to let us... More
