Sadly, we only had 2 nights at the Victoria Railway hotel with our wonderful hosts, Trudy and Eian Read. This old hotel has been refurbished to the highest quality with all mod cons and is an ideal base for activities in Invercargill and the surrounding area. Although it is actually a hotel and NOT a b&b, delicious breakfasts and dinners... more

I took a group of 6 motorcyclists that wanted an inexpensive and welcoming hotel for the Burt Munro rally. Two of us stayed in a room with its own bathroom while the others stayed in single rooms with shared toilets/showers. Trudy and Eian Read, owners/proprietors were so helpful and friendly - finding locked up parking for our bikes(and even a... more

We stayed one night at this hotel and loved the place. The owners were great and gave us the tour of the facility and even took the bags up to our room. Great location and very updated and modern rooms in this 1800's facility. Also free high speed internet was a huge bonus. more

the owners of this hotel could not have been any nicer, the hotel itself is located with an old building but the rooms themselves have been renovated with the latest bathroom fixtures, the internet and parking was free, we only stayed one night but we enjoyed it more

After a few cold and wet days on Stewart Island we needed a good hot dinner, bath and friendly greeting. We got all three! The old railway hotel is still a hotel and although not much of the old fixtures remain it is still worth a visit. more

I wouldnt necessarily stay in Invercargill, however if I was passing through I would stay here. A refurbushed hotel,we stayed in an executive room, which was very large, had a great newly refurbished bathroom. The hosts made us very confortable, immediatley offered us the leads to use for our laptop. more

We really loved this hotel - the building is beautiful and the owners are doing a fantastic job of both renovating the building and providing a fantastic level of service. We arrived here on my birthday and decided to eat in the hotel that night. Eain & Trudy cooked us a fantastic meal - complete with complimentary birthday cake! Our... more

Eian and Trudy have done a wonderful job renovating this magnificent, characterful building and turning it into unquestionably THE place to stay in Invercargill. The hotel oozes character and hospitality. The food is excellent, wholesome and homely, the bar is well-stocked (including the fine beers of the town's micro brewery), and the hotel's owners are exceptionally welcoming and helpful. The... more

Didn`t exspect any special of Invercargill or this hotel. Just one night before leaving NZ :-( in a cheap hotel. What a surprise: town not bad, lovely Oreti Beach, nice Bluff and this lovely hotel, in perfect condition, high quality and the most friendly owners I ever seen (and I stayed in many high-quality hotels all over the world) I'm... more
