We stayed here for one night on a trip around the South Island and are so glad we chose this hotel. The owners, Peter and Rose, were really helpful right from the start from carrying our bags up two flights of stairs to recommending a walking route around Invercargill. The hotel is just charming with lots of original features and... More

Second time we have stayed at the Victoria Railway Hotel. Wonderful experience of yesteryear. This time we were on ground floor which didn't have the character of upstairs. however as it was one night only, were happy enough to be able to enjoy this place again. Peter was very welcoming and helpful. Loved the ambience of the 'House Bar' &... More

This hotel is full of character, and the owners are extremely friendly and helpful. Not the cheapest in its class but great location close to the small town center and a great pub at the other end of the alley. My room was very nice and very large, but very functional and full of character.

Character and charm, centrally located to everything we wanted, we parked the car and walked. Rose and Peter very informative and hospitable couple, thank you Peter for carrying our bags up. The hotel has been restored, all rooms are inviting and bright, clean and fresh.

We were traveling by bus from Dunedin, on our way to Bluff to catch the Stewart Island ferry. The connection time seemed tight so we decided to spend the night in Invercargill and take the late morning ferry the next day. Our stay at the Railway Hotel made it all worthwhile. The first floor lobby and dining room have been... More

This is not a 5 star hotel! However it is full of character and the owners are extremely friendly and helpful. Not the cheapest in its class but great location close to the small town centre. Rooms were quaint but very functional and full of character.

We stayed 1 night at the Victoria Railway Hotel in a V.I.P. room on the top floor which delivered all that it promised. Delightfully furnished, spacious, spotlessly clean, recently renovated and well maintained. Rose and Peter were extremely welcoming, providing directions and places of interest. We had a drink in the cosy bar downstairs followed by fish and chips (huge... More

Our one night stay was very comfortable. Hosts were friendly and helpful and brekky was good. We enjoyed a nightcap in the small bar chatting to Peter and Rose about New Zealand after dining at the Irish pub in town. We had a large ground floor room on the corner. Close to the road but little traffic noise. The hotel... More
