I stayed two nights, when I visited stewart Island. This is good place to stay, it is in the city and accessible to all the shops. The staffs are so friendly and helpful. one of the help I've been offered was During my visit I checked in really late around 7 pm, and I forget to take few things. So... More

I really wanted to love this place, but everything kept working against us - the door made a loud buzzing if it was open even a crack, there were no windows in our room, the girls bathroom didn't have handles on the sink and the communal computers misquote the actual cost. I did appreciate the customer service and adore the... More

For a hostel the rooms were clean which is the main thing but with limited showers and toilets, dirty dryers, handless pots and pans and a receptionist who isn't quiet sure about things, a movie room with vhs but nothing to play them on and 'free wifi' which only works in reception which closes at 21.00 we think it's over... I shelled out the big bucks ($29/night) for a standard room (max 4 people in a room). I stayed there in winter, so it wasn't very busy, and I only had one roommate during my entire stay, so that was nice. Another positive is that the kitchen was impressively clean pretty much all the time. On the down side, the... More

Stayed here for a couple of nights, arrived at around 11am and wasn't allowed to check in early which was crazy as the whole hostel was empty. Staff weren't great or particularly helpful. The hostel was huge and a bit bleak, needs updating and a bit of atmosphere. Room keys were temperamental. Doors forever banging and there's a cafe below... More

Stayed for one night while visiting friends. Requested a twin room but were given at 4 person room for private use my the 2 of us. The women's bathroom facilities were dated and in much need of an upgrade. Didn't really use the kitchen facilities. There were other people staying but we didn't really see or hear any of them... It's just another youth hostel only extremely large. If you can do opt to pay the extra 4$ for a room upgrade. The cheapest rooms have just too many persons in too small a space to remain healthy. I checked into the cheapest room but when I opened the door I was greeted by an unpleasant stench of bodily smells... More

If you need a bed and a shower this place is fine. If you are looking for a comfortable, relaxing, nice hostel this might not be the place for you. The kitchen is quite overloaded at breakfast, lunch and dinner times and there are not enough pots and pans and not even enough forks for all people. Communal rooms were... More

Part of my dislike may have been that Invercargill just wasn't worth stopping in. The beds are super squeaky, and not memorably comfortable. The halls were smelly and the way the building is laid out means that many of the rooms don't have windows. The kitchen was poorly supplied with almost all of the pans not having handles. The Wi... Tuatara lodge is a large but cosy hostel in the city centre of Invercargill. The staff is very friendly and there is free wifi access. They have a large kitchen and clean rooms. We stayed there in a double room which was quite large and had high windows. All in all there was nothing to complain about.
