Stayed for one night while visiting friends. Requested a twin room but were given at 4 person room for private use my the 2 of us. The women's bathroom facilities were dated and in much need of an upgrade. Didn't really use the kitchen facilities. There were other people staying but we didn't really see or hear any of them... It's just another youth hostel only extremely large. If you can do opt to pay the extra 4$ for a room upgrade. The cheapest rooms have just too many persons in too small a space to remain healthy. I checked into the cheapest room but when I opened the door I was greeted by an unpleasant stench of bodily smells... More

If you need a bed and a shower this place is fine. If you are looking for a comfortable, relaxing, nice hostel this might not be the place for you. The kitchen is quite overloaded at breakfast, lunch and dinner times and there are not enough pots and pans and not even enough forks for all people. Communal rooms were... More

Part of my dislike may have been that Invercargill just wasn't worth stopping in. The beds are super squeaky, and not memorably comfortable. The halls were smelly and the way the building is laid out means that many of the rooms don't have windows. The kitchen was poorly supplied with almost all of the pans not having handles. The Wi... Tuatara lodge is a large but cosy hostel in the city centre of Invercargill. The staff is very friendly and there is free wifi access. They have a large kitchen and clean rooms. We stayed there in a double room which was quite large and had high windows. All in all there was nothing to complain about.

I had a double room for myself for the night. The room was very simply furnished but clean and comfortable and I got a good night's sleep. Although there are only a handful of car parking spaces I've managed to get one the last couple of times I've stayed. Very central.

We stayed here for one night in a 6 bed dorm. The rooms are quite small and not much room to move around when everyone puts their backpacks down. It was clean and the beds were comfortable enough. The hostel also provides free wifi. The kitchen was quite large and clean. The tv room had comfortable sofas to watch a... More

There is not much to commend this hostel. The rooms are small, the beds a little shaky. The whole place is dated. The kitchen is small but does the job. It is one of the poorer backpacker places I stayed in during my two months in New Zealand, but then there isn't anything that will spoil you mood for a... More

I had a great first impression as the staff that greeted me was very kind and helpful. The cafe downstairs is also very very pleasant, with good (and big!) breakfast for the price. Room (4 beds dorm) was very basic but clean and the mattress was actually one of the most comfortable I've had in NZ hostels. Bathrooms and other... More

I stayed 2 nights in a double ensuite. The room was fine but the ensuite was more of a wetroom so this you have to be prepared for. Towels and linens were supplied. The staff were friendly and the cafe downstairs makes great coffee, even better you get a discount if staying at the lodge. My only real complaint was... More
