The Southern Cross is the grand old lady of Dunedin. For years, she really was showing her age. Now the management have begun modernising the rooms, this is back on my list of hotels to stay at. The refurbished part of this hotel is lovely. The rooms have little view but it is inner city so this is usually the case. Rooms are not overly large but modern with lcd tvs etc. The bistro downstairs was great for light meals, I could sit by the fire and have a wine and didn't feel it was a problem... more

Location 2 blocks from the Octagon and rooms nice. Newly refurbished but walls so thin you could spit through them. No chance of a sleep in without hearing 'your turn for a shower', 'do u want a coffee' etc. Staff extremely friendly though more
