This is the second time my wife and I have stayed at the lodge whilst touring the South Island. Nothing had changed since our last visit a couple of years ago. They still maintain exceptionally high standards and we had never had any cause for complaint. There are 2 sides to their accomodation, the stables and the lodge. Prices vary... More

Being perched on a hil on the Otaga Peninsula the views from the room were not to beaten. Looking out of the window or from the balcony it felt like you were looking at a painting. The Lodge itself is not located in the castle itself, but in a building constructed around 1960. In general terms the historical theme of... More

Beyond exploring the historic castle and immaculate gardens and taking in the 360 degree views of exquisite scenery, every detail was attended which made our stable stay so enjoyable. Dining in the castle with other guests was a tasty bonus.

Very good value, comfortable bed, delicious cooked breakfast included. Entry to gardens and castle included in rate. The room was small but there was a shared lounge downstairs you could access. No cooking facilities.

Best views - amazing sunrise! Lovely rooms, very warm and clean. Superb meal in the castle dining room with very good service. A lovely breakfast and great service again this time in the stables. Self guided castle and garden tour included. A wonderful atmosphere and experience. Highly recommended and would definitely stay again.

Sadly we only stayed here for one night, it was so beautiful I wish we could have stayed an extra night. We had a gorgeous room with a balcony and views overlooking the coast. We visited the penguin palace and walked along the beaches. We saw plenty of penguin and walked into 2 sea lions on the beach. The breakfast... More

Note - I stayed in the stables which is different from the lodge. Wonderful day and night spent at the castle - arrived early and was accommodated around noon, leaving enough time for us to eat lunch in the castle ballroom and then wander the castle and grounds for the rest of the day before dinner. Dinner at the castle... More

We would like to recommend the Dinner in the Castle. Good food comes together with nice chats with other guests. Somebody of the staff accompanes through the evening telling the story of the castle and its owners.

A Larnach Castle tour, lunch or afternoon tea in the Ballroom and a walk through the gardens is a must for anyone visiting Dunedin and the Otago Peninsula. The castle and it's stories are magic. All the castle staff were wonderfully gracious and knowledgeable and the gentleman who waited on our breakfast table was simply delightful. The room in the... More
