Had a great couple of nights here and look forward to staying here again next time I'm in NZ. Staff were fantastic, food was fantastic and view was fantastic. Not far from town, nice and peaceful and very comfortable and warm room. I also enjoyed the tour of the castle and castle gardens and even though was freezing cold the... More

My room in the stable block was being refurbished, so I was upgraded free of charge to a room in the lodge. The decoration is very Scottish - lots of tartan and a chamois' head mounted on the wall! I enjoyed it. The breakfast was also very generous and the views from my room were stunning.

This is a magical place to stay if you are interested in New Zealand's history, love gardens, stunning views and all beauty....Our young boys loved it too.I recommend the dinner in the actual castle..I think it's wonderful being able to enjoy the castle rather than just visit it...drinks in the library...all very special.I read the book left in our room... My husband and 11 year old son stayed in the New Zealand room in July. The views are incredible. We enjoyed a glass of wine whilst watching the sunset. The bathroom is huge and the beds very comfy. We dined in the castle which was such a wonderful experience. We were the only guest (due to it being winter) and... More

We stayed in the Lodge during a visit to Larnach Castle. The room we ended up with was very fun, an old horse cart converted into a bed! I can see how some people would not like it, but for the more adventurous it's a bit of fun. If you wanted a more vanilla experience make sure you ask when... More

Hi Tristan. Thank you for your review. I'm glad you enjoyed our themed rooms, which really set us apart from standard accommodation - alongside the fantastic views and castle-setting! It's also great to hear the positive feedback about our staff. Regards, Michael More

We visited this beautiful castle in Dunedin in the winter and stayed in the lodge for a night. The castle itself was luxurious and furnished with delicate items which made it fun and interesting to visit and it was also educational as we learned about the sad tragic of the Larnach family, and it all made our trip awesomely pleasant... Lanarch Lodge exceeded expectations. Rhododendron room has amazing views and is so elegant and comfortable. Wonderful food, both the Stable breakfast (included) and the castle dinner. Attentive staff, beautiful gardens and castle, set on the Otago Peninsula which is worth exploring over a few days. Overall, a high point of our holiday and we will be back.

Amazing, helpful staff who really went out of their way for me. The views from the "Sea room" were incredible - i think i was really lucky to get this room which was probably the best. Awesome sunset/sunrise photo opportunities. Breakfast was included and this was great - good food and fantastic service once again.
