Wish I could give it a 3.5. The views from the room were incredible; probably my most favorite view from a hotel room ever. That being said, the room is in dire need of renovation. The decor is very tired, and just not up to par for the price being charged. I loved the grounds of the castle, and the... More

Hi Laura Thank you for your feedback about the Larnach Castle Lodge accommodation. I agree with you, the view from the rooms here are up there with the best in the world, especially on days like today where there was low lying cloud creeping up the Otago Harbour. Also, I appreciate the feedback about the standard of your room, I... More

We booked two nights here as a special treat and loved the prospect of dining in a castle. We had room 25 which was a really cramped attic type room which didn't seem to match the descriptions of other rooms mentioned here. There were no drawers for clothes and the one wardrobe with 2 (two hangers) was already full of... More

Stayed here in Feb - The castle and grounds are lovely. Check in was easy. We opted for dinner in the castle which was memorable. we dined with a varied and interesting group of people which added to the experience and our meal exceeded expectations, the chef certainly knows his craft - the waiter was very knowledgeable about the history... Two nights during our South Island trip in the beginning of March. 1. Check in: fast and trouble-free. 2. Staff: exceptionally friendly and effective! 3. Room: (stayed in room 27) reasonably spacious for two people, extravagant bed made of old carriage. Nice clean bathroom with old-style tub. Magnificent views over Otago peninsula. 4. Breakfast: average selection, effective service. Would definitely... More

This is a very good place to see when in Dunedin. Also great for Australians as there some Aussie involvement here. The guides to a great job of telling the story of the Castle and it's people. Well worth the visit and the view from the tower is fantastic.

The Lodge was a lovely and unusual location with access to the castle and the grounds and lovely views from the rooms. The old stables made an unusual location for the good inclusive breakfast. Dinner in the castle is an interesting experience for one night of your stay and is reasonable value if you want 3 courses, but there are... More

We as a large family decided to take our mum and dad to Larnach Castle fo their 60th wedding anniversary for a high tea to celebrate such a momentous occasion. Our parents are from English Scottish and Irish decent so we thought to honour their lineage by taking them to a castle. Well the day was glorious the food was... More

We were in Dunedin for a wedding being held at the castle and therefore decided to stay on site. The lodge was well appointed, well equipped and very comfortable. We enjoyed the view in the evening and again in the morning - from Room 26 as we could see in all directions down the peninsula and back to the harbour... More

Hi Robyn We are very lucky to be located in one of the most picturesque locations in the world. This creates a fantastic venue for a wedding and of course, as you said, the view from the rooms is always stunning. I'm also pleased to hear that you enjoyed the breakfast service and valued the input of the Barker family... More

Stayed at the Larnach Castle Lodge one night while traveling the East Coast of NZ. We stayed in a corner room with a gorgeous view of the sea and bay (Room 26). The lodge building is old but the room was refurbished very nicely and comfortably, with a small but very nice bathroom and shower. The castle itself and grounds... More

Truly fabulous views from The Lodge. We had a nose in several of the rooms and they are all quirkily and individually decorated and themed. The dining experience is fun and I enjoyed the story telling a lot. The story teller was very funny with her eye rolling delivery. Don't go for for the food - it's fine but not spectacular... More
