So upon seeing the Hotel from a distance i was shocked to see that the Hotel itself looked very different from its pictures. Upon check in i was served by the duty manager Simon who was slighty unpolite and not very helpful with my questions however one question i asked regarding having a car space for the duration of my... We stayed for one night - the hotel is in a fantastic position for bars, restaurants and the local attractions. The room had everything we needed. Just disappointed that a hotel chain can't offer free wifi when so many smaller ones do - I think it shows a lack of understanding of customer requirements. If they could sort that out... More

I have just spent 3 nights here over the last weekend. I was in Dunedin for a school centennial and I chose this hotel based on location and price. I was not disappointed. The hotel is very handy to the centre of Dunedin and all it has to offer. I did not have a car so I was on foot... More

I have stayed here a number of times on business. Hotel is located very centrally on slight hill just above Octagon. Main CBD and restaurants are very close within wakking distance Entrance and restaurant on site is a little tired but renovated and modern and others are a little tired. This time I was in a Junior Suite on the... More

I have stayed here a couple of times and unfortunately once again the one and only lift was out of order. However the staff make up for it with their friendliness. The hotel us situated so close to the octagon it makes it an ideal spot. The rooms are not well insulated for noise and the six o'clock start next... More

Needed a cheap overnight stay in Dunedin. This proved to be more than satisfactory. Room was clean and presentable as was the bathroom. TV, Wifi and coffee making facilities all working but nothing in the mini bar even though there was a price list on the top! Comfortable beds with pillow options. Not much of a view but that was... The Kingsgate is a decent hotel to stay in for a reasonable rate. The only problem was that there was no air conditioning, only a heater in the room. I had to sleep with a window slightly ajar and this brought in a fair bit of noise till the early hours of the morning. The restaurant and bar weren't that... More

Wonderful location; staff eager to please; room was spacious, very clean, etc. A limited but adequate supply of drinks and snacks. My only complaint is the lighting. There was no overhead lighting except at the door and in the bathroom. You had to walk in near darkness to get to lamp on table by bed or walk in total darkness... More

Don't have much nice things to say, our TV didn't work and was not fixed even though we notified reception, the rooms get quite hot and stuffy and there's no air con, rooms not sound proof can hear neighbours talking. Definitely would not stay her again.

We stayed here after arriving in the city by train after completing the Rail trail. Easy walk from the train station. Large comfortable room with 2 Queen sizes beds. Easy check in and check out. Close to the Octagon which has many restaurants, pubs for eating out. Also very close to the main shops, art gallery and museum.
