I had a pleasant enough stay on my 2 nights at Abbey Motor Lodge. There is some renovating going on so the place, at least from the outside isn't in tip top shape. But it's hardly enough to turn one off staying there. What matters most of course are the state of the rooms, and i found them to be... More

We stayed here for two nights, as we had booked in advance. Had we known what to expect, we'd have stayed elsewhere. The staff was not knowledgeable on touristic attractions at all. The simply referred us to their brochures and gave us wifi access. Although this helped, it didn't get us too excited about our visit. The room itself had... More

Don't stay here! We arrived at 7.30pm in winter to find the door of our room wide open so the room was freezing and the heater was difficult to use, the windows didn't shut well so a cold breeze was coming in all night- we didn't get warm until we were in bed. The room smelt awful and the bathroom... More

Cheap for a reason but considering the poor condition of the building, it is still not cheap enough. The lack of maintenance shows in old surfaces being hard to clean. The quality of the building let in more noise than expected. Good staff and location.

Good location close to town at a very reasonable room rate. Good points. - comfortable king size bed and a good TV. Bad points./ - carpets, paint work, shower unit & kitcheon all need upgrading now. Overall standard reflected the price paid.

We stayed here on two separate occasions during our 17 day trip to the South Island. Pros: Free wifi. Not too far from town if you don't mind walking a bit. Close to the great Speight's Ale House (also on Bealey Ave). Front room is fairly modern. Cons: Asked for a quiet room, but they put us in the one... More

1970's style motel with high occupancy at a price point just above budget means an affordable roof with tired decor: didn't bother us. Great for a quickie overnight crash-pad or for a couple of days. Bed was comfortable but a standard (small) small double. Was assigned an upstairs room which made it rather hot and stuffy due to summer conditions... More

Booked for 2 nights but only stayed one, cancelled 2nd night and went to better accommodation. Looked presentable from outside. Lady at reception English was difficult to understand. I was able to inform some out of town guests more about some of the local shops than the woman at reception. She was polite though. We stayed in room 3 and... More

I booked a king studio at Abbey Motor Lodge for one night. I was given room # 9 which was by the road side and it felt like I was sleeping on the street. Extremely noisy. You can even hear people from the neighbouring room. Even though they provided free wifi, the signal strength was extremely poor and I had... More
