5 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

We arrived by car and as its tucked back from the road a bit nearly missed the turning into the carpark. There are about a dozen first come first served spaces. If full then you can street park around the back and there is a path through to the main entrance. The welcome from the front desk was friendly, efficient... More

Stayed here for my first three nights in New Zealand and my first time back in a hostel since university. There was a little confusion regarding my bed, I booked a standard dorm bunk but they were all taken when I was shown to the room and I had to hang around a little while the confusion was sorted out.... We stayed here for a night in a twin room, which was 90 NZD. This place certainly has character as it’s the old jailhouse, and there’s even a couple of rooms that have been left as they once were to show the original conditions. The location is good, being walking distance to the city centre through Hagley Park. However, the... More

Good staff and good location. The cleanest place I've been in all my time in New Zealand. Good showers and good beds. There's no breakfast but the kitchen is very well equipped. The place still keep a lot of the "Jailhouse" looks but manage to be very cozy and comfy at the same time. Recommend to book the dorm rooms... More

I've given this place 5 stars (which I've never given before) because I found no faults with it whatsoever. We arrived late at night, and they left a note to tell us our room number and where to find it. Also they left the free wifi voucher (always useful). We were in the biggest dorm room, so we expected a... More

Stayed here for our last three nights in NZ. Was really clean and well cared for environment. The staff were excellent and it was really good to see separate facilities in the kitchen for staff, this has bugged me in other hostels. The cells are cells and strange compared to other hostels but that is why you stay here to... More

Stayed in a 'double' room. It was small but clean and comfortable. Included a small tv that had local channels. There are a couple of empty display cells on the upper floor that have some cool inmate wall art, ask the front desk (in case it isn't obvious because the door was closed sometimes). Food tip: If you want to... More

Adding to the unique ‘jailish’ interior, were tableware in black and white stripes, not to mention zebra candies for free at the reception desk. Cool. If you’d like to experience an accommodation with an out-of-mainstream atmosphere but with a reasonable price, it is here. Staffs were friendly and helpful. However, in a season like summer, I think more than one... More

If you're looking for somewhere to stay in Christchurch, don't miss the opportunity to overnight in a recently refurbished Victorian prison. Thoroughly random and 'an experience' to say the least. Comfortable beds in the cells, good facilities and 500mb free wifi at a decent speed. Good facilities with single cubicle showers - no soap on a rope required!
