Hello travellers, It's taken a while for me to get around to writing this review, but Grasmere Lodge was worth it! Set in the rugged mountains inland from Christchurch, this is the New Zealand I wanted to see and experience and it did not disappoint. My partner and I stayed at four lodges in NZ, and Grasmere was clearly the... more

Arrived from Christchurch by train (amazing views!) and was picked up by Tom, the friendly hotel manager, who showed me the lodge and surroundings, and who also personally hosted the delicious wine reception and sit-down dinners for all guests. The property is surrounded by beautiful mountains, which are worth hiking and admiring. The lodge offered various activities, for example, they... more

We stayed in Grasmere for 4 nights over Christmas, with our 3 children and it was the highlight of our stay in New Zealand. The thing that really made it special were the wonderful staff who just got it right, relaxed and seemingly effortless service. It is in a stunning location with lots to do outdoors. We went riding one... more

Grasmere Lodge, a member of the "Small Luxury Hotel" Collection, is for sure a very nice isolated place to relax from the daily stress. The location is beautiful, the farm and the farm tour really nice. There I can only agree on the other reviews (nothing to be said additionally). The room has been great, huge, with a gas fire... more

The resort is beautiful and unique. The luxury ranch has many cows, sheep, horses, and deer. The surrounding mountain is awe-inspiring. The included dinner was very good, but not as good as Solitaire’s. Tom, the general manager, and most of the staffs were friendly and professional. Plenty of activity to do – free tennis court, pool table, and a well... more

Grasmere is some distance from anywhere, and that's only one of its aspects that makes it one of the most special places we have ever stayed. The setting on the high plains at the base of the Southern Alps is gorgeous, particularly if you arrive, as we did, at Grasmere's airstrip on a charter flight along Mr. Cook and the... more

What a luxurious and relaxing way to start a holiday! As the first destination in our week-long trip to the South Island, Grasmere Lodge certainly set a very high standard. Yes it is quite isolated but this only adds to the feeling of total abandonment - leave every day stresses behind and step into a world where time slows, casual... more

The address of Christchurch is misleading as the lodge is about an hour and half outside the city. The lodge is about 20 minutes away from Arthur's Pass, a beautiful part of New Zealand. Whilst not the cheapest place to stay by a long chalk the lodge is awesome. We had a fantastic room. All rooms have a complimentary mini... more

We stayed 2 nights. We thought this was a superb place. We were upgraded into the cottage. Although 5 minutes from the main lodge, the cottage was stunning - large and superbly appointed with views into valleys that are to die for. Great common areas as well: welcoming lounge and well-stocked bar. The food was consistently superb and the communal... more
