Happened across the YMCA in Christchurch during the World Buskers Festival, which made it's close proximity location great (already being very good, just off the lovely botanical gardens and park). The staff were very friendly and helpful (recommending the festival), and the building packed with good facilities (cafe, gym, laundry and the like). The corridors and social areas felt a... More

I stayed here twice, the staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms are spacious. Bathrooms are clean and well maintained. The kitchen is not bad but it is very crowded. The hostel is located very close to the botanical gardens and the i-Site Vistor center. It is a bit of a walk from the intercity drop point (Armagh Street).

Since the earthquake the prices went up to support the people and the community to rebuild their livelihood. Nothing wrong with that and the facilities were tidy and clean. Objectively there was nothing wrong. Yet, I felt it a rather cold environment in terms of the people around.

Great location...we really loved Christchurch, despite th fact that the devestation of the earthquake is still all too apparent. The YMCA offered us a great twin room for an affordable price...including Internet that worked well, a fridge and kettle. We did cook in the kitchen but it was disgustingly dirty...we had to wash pots and dishes before we cooked. The... More

I travelled alone, my case did not arrive and I'd arranged a couple of outings with two social groups who I'd never met before. The staff here were fantastic, they rang the airport, checked on line and were so pleased for me when my case turned up 3 and a half days later. They were concerned for my safety meeting... More

Located in central christchurch, next to Hagley park and the museum. it was undergoing exterior work while i was there that began at 7AM, so if you were not up by then--you would be once work started. Room 219--single, shared bath, walls were thin and you could hear people in the halls, room was a nice size--single bed, desk, window.... More

I was in ChCh seeing family at Christchurch Hospital, I chose the YMCA because it was near the hospital (like 5 minutes walk away). I booked a double room with shared bathroom facilities to keep down my costs, the room was a good size and there were a number of bathrooms available on my floor which were dated, but clean.... Stayed at the YMCA twice last month as my stop overs in Christchurch. I chose the backpackers due to the location to the main bus stop. It is literally 2 minutes walk from the Hostel. Also the Taxi from the Airport had no issue finding it. As for location near food way out of the way, only because most of... More
