This is a very stately hotel in the center of the city. It was spacious and the staff were especially helpful during our stay. Very quiet in the rooms and old school in its very wide halls and grand center staircase. Christchurch was hard hit, but this hotel is an oasis in the city center.

If you have four kids like us then the split level Suite 16 is fabulous. We love staying here when we are in Christchurch, it's majestic in an old world sense and safe due to the strengthening work done prior to the earthquakes. We recommend the room service breakfast.

This is a well-equipped and appointed hotel, with lovely high ceilings, large bedroom suites and a decent gym/fitness suite (with a 20m lap pool). The bedroom suites include kitchen and laundry facilities. Beds are large and pretty comfortable. Breakfast in the Madison room was nice, freshly cooked to order. The gym is excellent for a hotel, reflecting the fact that... More

A two bedroom apartment here is great for families. Plenty of space for everyone with a full kitchen and laundry in room. Would have been nice if the room was warm when we arrived and the heater could be more efficient. Pool and spa in basement are handy.

What a lovely hotel, all the history & quirkiness, like the main toilets in former bank vaults! Staff we're friendly & helpful, breakfast was really nice, but the most impressive thing, was the 2 storey suites (I was in in suite 15)! It was a surprise to walk into the room and have stairs leading upto an impressive king bed... More

Interesting, old government building. Nicely furnished. Our 2-bedroom apartment was very large, spanning 2 floors and with 2 bathrooms and in-room laundry. Centrally located with an easy walk to parks, shops, and restaurants. Have to pay for valet parking or mess with the cheaper municipal parking across the road. WiFi was too slow in our room to be usable, but... More

A really comfortable stay, room was great, nicely decorated and very clean and was at a very reasonably rate. Really central and in close walking distance to a number of restaurants plus the gardens. Really attentive staff who are more than happy to help out where they can.

Classic hotel with the room we stayed in having a full kitchen and laundry facilities. Room was large, clean and comfortable. Bed was huge, larger than our kingsize at home. Nothing bad to say about the room at all. Only negative is the lack of bar/restaurant for evening relaxation. The room service is all sourced from a Japanese restaurant and... More

We stayed here for two nights. The hotel is grand with high ceilings, beautiful architecture. The rooms are spacious and clean with washer/dryer in the room and a kitchenette. We spent two nights here. We found it without too much trouble. considering the maps on the GPS were out of date. However, talking to locals, the closure of roads and changes of traffic are constant because of the rebuilding. Now, back to the hotel : it is as beautiful inside as out. It is centrally located, which males it... More
