Kaituna Homestead is a charming little country style outfit that's a mere 40min-1hour drive from hustling and bustling Christchurch. The house's long history and quaint decor gives it much character. Our host is warm and thoughtful and we felt really bad to have only stayed for one night at a place as charming as Kaituna Homestead; we meant for it... More

Our sister turned 50 and we wanted to treat her to something special, which we found at Kaituna Homestead. We walked into a beautiful period home oozing with warmth and hospitality to be shown to our private drawing room for champagne in front of a lovely fire. My sister’s friends arrived for a delightful afternoon filled with chatter while Penelope’s... More

Kaituna is a charming 1900s homestead, sympathetically restored and decorated in keeping with the style of the house. Our room was very comfortable and warm with everything we needed. Our friendly hostess looked after us wonderfully. We stayed two nights, and spent the day on a drive round some of the Eastern Bays of Banks Peninsula, though we could have... More

My husband and I enjoyed a lovely weekend at Kaituna Homestead taking advantage of the winter special. We had the individual attention of the hostess and fully enjoyed the quiet, the elegant bedroom (with very comfortable bed), the sunroom for leisurely reading and late breakfasts, and the dining room equipped with fire for ambience and warmth and music of choice.... This is a truly remarkable homestead set in a beautiful farming valley with a lovely lawn and gardens. The 1900 building is vast and full of fascinating antiques and possessions – there is even a ballroom. Penelope was a delightful hostess and cooked us a fantastic evening meal and breakfast. She is a talented and original cook. The Mt Herbert... More

3 of my friends joined me for an afternoon of complete indulgence at Kaituna Homestead as a birthday celebration, we enjoyed a wonderful afternoon tea. Penelope was a very attentive host with an eye for detail We were left to our own chatter as she prepared the delights from the kitchen and popped in now and again to replenish our... More

What wonderful guests! The girls made such an effort and dressed 50s style for the occasion which made it all such fun. More

I left this stay with the comment that this was the nicest home I have ever seen and it surpassed my expectations fully. The room was totally beautiful and had the most amazing furnishings and bed. We had a three course meal that evening cooked by the owner who is an accomplished chef by our standards and blew us away... More

NFantastic food run well by a lovely lady. Thanks for a great day. We will be back. Penelope is a wonderful cook. Service was great. She modified the menu to suit our taste. The surrounds were lovely and the house was charming.

We spent four nights at the Homestead and loved it. For us, the location was ideal, in the country down a quiet road, but only 40 minutes to Christchurch and an hour to Akaroa. A great walking track with wonderful views starts right beside the property. A hike up to the hut is about an hour and a half. There... More

We stayed at Kaituna last November and Penelope has set the bar so high it will be difficult to find another B&B that will come close to this. What distinguishes Kaituna from other B&Bs is Penelope's passion to give her guests the best experience possible. The little things she did without prompting made our stay beyond excellent. She offered to... More
