If you want to see the interior of a classic New Zealand wood-frame home, this B&B is for you. The owners, Pam and Denis, are friendly and helpful. They offer an excellent breakfast in their bright, charming, fascinatingly decorated day-room and adjoining kitchen, with a lovely view of a large and well tended garden. For dinner they recommended an Indian... More

Lovely bed and breakfast with good location and helpful owners. Great breakfast cooked by the man of the house! Comfortable bed and quiet surrounds. Garden well kept and pretty. Overall worth the visit.

We stayed with Pam and Denis for two nights before our flight back from Christchurch. They were very friendly and welcoming and happy to chat with us about our visit and plans, providing us with tea and Denis's homemade cakes whenever we needed them. We stayed in the Mulberry room which was clean and comfy and had a lovely en... More

We stayed here on the first night of our honeymoon in New Zealand recently, and couldn't have been made to feel more welcome. Delicious tea and cakes on arrival, extremely comfortable bed after our long flight and superb cooked breakfast, we couldn't have asked for more. Pam and Dennis were the perfect hosts, they created a warm friendly and relaxed... More

Pam & Denis' home and garden is GORGEOUS! Tea, coffee & delicious homemade baking by Denis, were offered and served in the luxurious guest lounge as soon as we arrived. (Refreshments were also kindly extended to a visiting cousin, thank you so very much) Elegant furnishings & beautiful table settings in keeping with the period of this high ceiling house.... More

My wife and I had the opportunity of staying at the Lilac before taking our plane to fly back to Auckland and leave new Zealand. It is simply a lovely place in a beautiful Victorian type property. Room was complete with amenities, bath room was gorgeous and the owners offered us complete hospitality services including a healthy breakfast in the... More

we only spent 1 night here instead of the 2 we expected because of a mix up with Booking.com. Pam was wonderful and helped us find another accommodation even though it was quite booked up in Christchurch. We had the attic room, small but comfortable with a nice private bathroom ( heated floors, etc) right next door. I was afraid... More

Our last stop was Christchurch, after traveling 3 weeks in a campervan. We've booked this B&B upfront, thinking we might want to rest in a comfy bed the night before flying home. Lilac Rose offered this, and much more. When we arrived, Pam & Dennis were at home ready to welcome us. After some coffee and lovely homemade muffins, they... More

Lilac Rose is a beautiful property, there is no doubt about it. We chose it as it looked so quaint and offered the boutique feel we love to experience on holiday. Sadly, however pretty it is, to look at, there were many things that detract from its 'boutique' and 'luxury' labels... The Welcome: It's not very easy to spot from... More

Pam and Dennis were fabulous hosts, had tips on places to visit both in Christchurch and beyond. They had bikes we could use to ride to the Botanical Gardens, a hot tub which was lovely in the evening, and delicious breakfast along with great company. We stayed in the attic room which was great with its own bathroom (although not... More
