We are from, shall we say, a 'warmer climate' so when we arrived in Christchurch during a winter storm we wondered what we had struck! It was a little bit of a novelty for us I must admit. When we checked in at Designer Cottage the heater was on and the place was toastie warm. The bed even has an... More

When we started to plan our trip to New Zealand ouir friends told us that we had to book our accomadation at BnB's while in New Zealand. What great advice that was. Our first 2 nights were at Designer Cottage in Christchurch and what a fantastic introduction to the BnB style we had. The guys were so helpful and offered... More

Upon arriving in New Zealand we took a taxi to get to the cottage which came to $70, there is an airport shuttle that you can take but we didn't know about this so be aware that there is a cheaper option than taking a taxi. The cottage itself is in a really nice location, quite for at night but... More

Our flight arrived in the small hours so we contacted Designer Cottage in advance to find out how to check in after hours. Chet replied almost immediately with very simple instructions for late check ins which worked like a treat. To easy! They even put the heater on so our room was so cosy. Breakfast next morning was very relaxed... More

We are not into generic and bland hotels, so Designer Cottage B&B was exactly what we like. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable about the City and its surroundings. We were offered a tailor made map identifying local sites and eateries. We are both cat and garden lovers, so Marmite the friendly cat entertained us during breakfast out side the... More

Ours was only a short stay but we were made to feel at home the minute we arrived. We left our car parked and walked into town past some of Christchurch's interesting street art and really enjoyed a stop at the restart mall just down Colombo Street. Our room was spotless and very cosy. Free WiFi was a real plus... More

We only 2 nights at this cottage at the end of summer. Wish we could stay more. Being from Singapore we are not accustomed to such space and garden. Many nice reasonably priced food placers close by and Cafe Valetinos in the city which Chet did recommend to us. Great local 'kiwi' food which is what we like.

Designer Cottage was just what we were looking for after a hectic couple of weeks driving around the beautiful south island. It was just the right balance between having loads of privacy and being able to sit down and talk to Chet or Steve about Christchurch and its future rebuild plans. We can't wait to come back in a couple... More

I stayed just one night at this cosy B&B in a quiet section of Christchurch. The hosts are very friendly and unobtrusive, in fact I hardly saw them at all except at check-in and breakfast. The room was a good size, and comfortable, as was the bed--my only quibble is with the pillows, which were a lot softer than I... More

We stayed two nights and found this cosy B&B to be just right. The host Steve made us feel welcome and even drove us to the train station to catch the Transalpine express. What a great guy. Breakfast was cereal, toast, yogurt, fruit, juice and tea, which was nice. The room was fine and suited our needs. It was a... More
