This place is okay. Showers, kitchen, friendly stuff and laundry - everything you need for one night in Christchurch (but don't stay longer in this awful city - was the earthquake yesterday or three years ago). Negative point for this place: It's rediculous that there are now plug-in's in the room and the Wireless is very very slow from time... More

My boyfriend and I stayed at YHA Christchurch for 2 nights after arriving in Christchurch. We stayed in a double ensuite room. The room was pleasant, good size, clean and had tea and coffee making facilities. The kitchen of the hostel was tiny for the amount of guests staying there but the hostel was within walking distance to cafes so... More

This is a humongous hostel that is about a decade ahead of its time as there’s nowhere near enough going on in christchurch to justify its presence. It is very contemporary and clean and well organised although as previous people have commented the lounge area lacks character and energy and most people in there have been 'assimilated by the borg'... The people that stay in this hostel for some reason do not wash up after themselves. The kitchen was a disgrace, the staff need to put up a huge sign over the sinks to remind people of this. I think part of the problem is only having 3 sinks, people pile their pots in there while eating as there is... More

I'm aware that this is a hostel and therefore we weren't expecting anythig other than a hostel type stay however what we did expect and pay for was cleanliness. This hostel is the most disgusting place I have ever stayed in. When we arrived, we were slightly early for check in so we waited in the lounge until our room... More

Kia ora Sophthorn, Thank you for leaving us feedback and apologies for the state of the couch in the front room. At the time of your visit we were waiting for the couch to be picked up for recycling. It has since been removed. I am surprised to hear that you experienced rude staff and unclean bathrooms. I can assure... More

The place seemed to be new or newly renovated. The rooms were very small but comfortable and had everything we needed. I did however take issues with the bathrooms. The non-handicap restroom in the corridor under the stairs has a huge window that looked out onto the neighbor’s house with no curtain or frosting over the window. Needless to say,... More

Kia ora Sarah, Thank you for taking the time to leave us feedback. As you picked up on, YHA Christchurch is a new YHA hostel and we’re still in the process of ironing out the wrinkles. The window treatments are a problem we’ve picked up on and have now dealt with. Enjoy your onward travels. All the best, Luke Tarplett,... More

A fairly new building but it seems like it's lacking a bit of good management. To being with, staff were not the friendliest. I'm a single male travelling alone and I felt that one of the receptionist were mostly only wanting to help other female guest. Also, everytime I walk pass reception no one wants to make eye contact with... More

Kia Ora Leesa, Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback for YHA Christchurch. We always appreciate it. Let me first apologise for the issues you raised in regards to staff. Because we are a new, and very busy hostel, we have many new staff members who are still in training. I will be sure to discuss with them... More

Only a very short walk around the corner where the nakedbus stopped, we found the reception inviting, room clean and surprising to find a large flatscreen tv in the room! Kitchen was nice and big which meant less stove hogging :)

Nice and friendly staff, close to city centre and Hagley park. Great for getting off/catching naked bus as the bus stop is just around the corner at the museum. Nice clean room to relax in, friendly staff. Only issue (although no fault of the hostel) is everyone liked to slam their doors closed... Even early hours of the morning.

Hello! Thanks for taking the time to leave us some feedback. Its great to hear you enjoyed our hostel and our team. They are pretty great! In regards to the doors, we have installed door silencers on all doors but we'll look at adjusting the speed on them so they close slower and quieter. Enjoy the rest of your travels.... More

This is a fine budget option in Christchurch. We opted for a private room with shared bathroom. The room and bathroom were spotlessly clean, and there were enough bathrooms on the floor that we never had to wait too long to use one. The large lounge was a comfortable place to hang out, and it was nice to use the... More

Kia Ora TravelCowboys, Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback for the old Thomas’ Hotel. As of 4 August 2014, this hotel became a YHA hostel – YHA Christchurch. This new ownership meant a number of changes for the property. We are currently undergoing refurbishment throughout the hostel which will address the concerns you mentioned. We also... More
