Lovely friendly welcome but not very clean.. Kitchen was super messy, bathrooms smelly and dirty, bed room was okay. Also limited communal areas inside. If the hostel is busy it gets rather crowded in the tv room which is the only place to relax inside (apart from a small dining room). Would try to stay somewhere else next time.

Ok, so this review is about the long-term accommodation building which is actually separate from the main dorms. The Grapevine has a house across from the main building where workers can stay at a weekly rate, and that was where I was for two weeks. I completely loved it though. After backpacking for so long, it was nice to be... More

Friendly staff. Clean rooms, kitceken and lots of nice corners to hangout/chillout in. 15 minute walk from bus/train station. Not to bad even with our big bags. Lovely garden out back over looking river.lts of outdoor seating too. Its an old place but has a nice feel to it.

A beautiful building, but the room and bathroom were really dirty. Obviously had not been cleaned properly for a long time. Surfaces were not wiped and previous inhabitants food and drink marks were on the bed side tables. No hand soap in the bathroom. The kettle was mouldy. A real shame as the building itself was lovely. A waste of... More

About 90% of the people staying here were long term residents who are working in the local area, so the atmosphere is not the same as a regular backpackers. We felt like we were gate crashing a giant flatshare. We had a double room in a separate building which was pretty basic but clean, and if we hadn't had a heater... More

My friend and I stayed in a room in the separate annex for one night as we were really just here for a bikes n wines tour. We didn't really use the communal areas of the house so can't really comment on those. But our room was pretty spotless as was the bathroom. There's no heater in there tho, and... More

This hostel is situated in an old converted house, so there is a bit of an 'old building' feel about the place but it seemed clean enough. We stayed in a double room that was very spacious, airy and bright. The bathrooms were adequate but the floor was often covered in water after people had showered. The hostel seemed to... More

I went to the grapevine because I read in the BBH guide that they have free canoes which is true. They have three or four of them and it's first come, first go but I never saw all of them being used. From the veranda, you have a lovely view of the river that goes through Blenheim on which I... More

We had a private room which was away from the main hostel building so it was really quiet! We had a huge room with one double bed and a single bed and a TV. The back porch had a beautiful view. The best thing was the cheap bike hire! Billie was very helpful and extremely professional. Only a short 15... More

We stayed at the Grapevine for a couple of nights as we had come to the region solely to take a wine tour. It's a bit different from the usual hostels/backpackers we have stayed in. It is an old converted house, which is a beautiful building. We had a large double room at the front of the property with huge... More
