My partner and I came across this location through the maruia springs website after googling hot pool locations, as soon as we came across the site we booked immediately, it all looked to good to be true! the day before travelling to the resort I stumbled upon the mixed online reviews, so many seemed to be negative and it had... Very poor response to a question on why we cannot have our pet dog sleep in the room with us on her own bed. We said she would not be in the room unless we were; and when in the pools etc she would be in the car. But still the almost automated response of "we don't allow pets, they... More

Not a good place to stop for locals, all geared up to gouge as much money out of th unsuspecting traveller as possible. This place not only charges for toilets (which there are none locally) but wanted to charge us to put 2 helmets in office for safe keeping. Went soak our feet in foot bath on decking attached to... Not impressed. Let's just say the photos are better than reality. Our room was old, wallpaper pealing, poor decor, and were even given the room with the disabled bathroom. The word 'resort' has been used where it should not. Defiantly not worth a 3.5 hour trip to go to. WAY too expensive for what you got. Could have stayed in... More

As you can see one night only to expensive to stay any longer on our budget .The food was to die for dinner & breakfast mmmmm yummy. Pools very good acc average . We have been to Japan & didn't expect the pools to be as good as Japanese onsen . They were all right. $300 for dinner breakfast pools... More

My husband & I have visited many hot springs/pools throughout North America, some very rustic and others developed. The best hot springs are the ones that are off the beaten path, where you walk in from the road (after driving up and down mountain sides), shuck your clothes and crawl into the pool, spring or sweat lodge. Maruia Springs, although... More

First of all I must mention that if you booked Maruia Springs hoping to stay in a five star onsen resort like the ultra expensive ones in Japan then you are sorely mistaken. We did pay those prices and as such did not expect a luxury resort; all we wanted was a Japanese onsen experience that was as authentic as... More

I recommend Maruia Springs to nobody. Me and my partner stayed a total of 15 mins. The Rock Pools were our first stop where we stayed no more than a minute as we were surrounded by moscitos. We then went to the Japanese Indoor Pools but didn't enjoy this as we were separated. I thought this was ridiculous and when... More

I have wanted for years to come to Maruia Springs and finally got the chance. all the photos i had seen showed BIG pools and fresh modern rooms. these were clearly very 'clever' photos and the reality far undereached the expectation. FANTASTIC SERVICE -cannot fault the service - lovely girls FANTASTIC FOOD - was nothing i could fault here -... More

Read other reviews and feel I went somewhere else. Japanese room was excellent and worth the little extra, bed was excellent, service better than excellent, euro food was like masterchef quality and good value, pools do have black algae but its natural and skin was so soft and soothed after bathing. I only saw one ceiling needing a paint touchup.... More
