Maruia Springs is not a 5-star hotel but it surely has 5-star elements. We stayed for a night only. Snow fell down a few days before we arrived so we could still see most parts of Maruia Springs covered with snow. Lovely. We booked Mountain View room (packaged with breakfast, dinner & private spa - it's worth it). Prior to... More

Stayed at Maruia Springs July 2015 for a night .The thermal pools are worth their weight in gold.Relaxing, pure and natural thermal water. The restaurant is very good ,would recommend the pork belly for an evening meal, complements to the chef. If you are on your way to the west coast ,make a point of staying ,especially in winter when the snow is... More

We have visited Maruia Springs for a couple of nights every winter since 1993, we love the natural thermal pools and the stunning mountain views. We tolerated the overpriced and basic rooms because we were there for long soaks in the outdoor pools. It is sad, however, to see the facilties and customer service getting so run down and over... After arriving at Hanmer springs hoping for an NZ hot springs experience and finding big plastic, super touristy place with a water park type feel, we were pleasantly surprised to have discovered Maruia Springs. After an hour or so drive through snow kissed mountainous forest we came to Maruia Springs, a remote feeling place in a little valley, surrounded by... More

I have driven past this place several times while travelling and due to the lack of good cafes between Christchurch and Nelson thought I would try it. First sign was no other cars in the carpark at 12.30. Not good I thought. I ventured in regardless to the average condition building. I was greeted by something that reminded me of... More

This thermal resort has not changed since I was a kid and it shows. It needs complete renovation. It has just been sold to some Australian/ New Zealanders so I hope they have this in their plans. The pools are quite nice - more natural than hanmer. However the faculties that come with them need to be replaced/ updated.

Arrived at reception to be greeted by a friendly staff member. Due to reading the vast range of reviews we requested to View a garden side room before we committed to booking. We seen room 3 it is a basic room with no modern amenities and although dated it was clean. However we made a conscious decision we were here... More

Stayed overnight. Check-in was a breeze. They have packages available that includes dinner and / or breakfast, hire of Kimonos and use of their private spa. Private Spa is well-worth a try (no sandflies here) The facilities are a bit dated though. The place probably needs a renovation sometime soon... Restaurant is definitely 5 star +! Lovely menu with both... More

Long drive from hammer springs to the pools. What a disappointment. Couldn't use the outside pools because of the sandflies, couldn't use the larger indoor pools because they are single sex (I was travelling with my kids - one of each sex and two young to send one by themselves into one of the pools), which left us with no...
