As you can see one night only to expensive to stay any longer on our budget .The food was to die for dinner & breakfast mmmmm yummy. Pools very good acc average . We have been to Japan & didn't expect the pools to be as good as Japanese onsen . They were all right. $300 for dinner breakfast pools... More

My husband & I have visited many hot springs/pools throughout North America, some very rustic and others developed. The best hot springs are the ones that are off the beaten path, where you walk in from the road (after driving up and down mountain sides), shuck your clothes and crawl into the pool, spring or sweat lodge. Maruia Springs, although... More

First of all I must mention that if you booked Maruia Springs hoping to stay in a five star onsen resort like the ultra expensive ones in Japan then you are sorely mistaken. We did pay those prices and as such did not expect a luxury resort; all we wanted was a Japanese onsen experience that was as authentic as... More

I recommend Maruia Springs to nobody. Me and my partner stayed a total of 15 mins. The Rock Pools were our first stop where we stayed no more than a minute as we were surrounded by moscitos. We then went to the Japanese Indoor Pools but didn't enjoy this as we were separated. I thought this was ridiculous and when... More

I have wanted for years to come to Maruia Springs and finally got the chance. all the photos i had seen showed BIG pools and fresh modern rooms. these were clearly very 'clever' photos and the reality far undereached the expectation. FANTASTIC SERVICE -cannot fault the service - lovely girls FANTASTIC FOOD - was nothing i could fault here -... More

Read other reviews and feel I went somewhere else. Japanese room was excellent and worth the little extra, bed was excellent, service better than excellent, euro food was like masterchef quality and good value, pools do have black algae but its natural and skin was so soft and soothed after bathing. I only saw one ceiling needing a paint touchup.... More

I can honestly say this is the first really negative review I have ever placed. We came here 15yrs ago and it clean, well maintained and a delightful experience. This is what prompted a return visit 3 days ago. Oh dear me; the whole pool area(s) are very poorly maintained, that aside the outdoor pools with the exception of the... More

There is nothing else like this place in the South Island. I've stayed there about 6 times in the past ten years and little has changed about it in that period. First the good things. The location is in the middle of beautiful West Coast Beech forest in a mountain valley of the Lewis Pass. There is no cell phone... More

Found the grounds in need of some TLC and also the room dated. Enjoyed the pools but found the area around the pools, paths and changing rooms needed cleaning. Breakfast was good. Could hear everything that the gest in the next room were doing!!

We have stayed here a couple of times.... the rooms are getting worse. The accommodation is way over-priced. The food is lovely however, and the pools are fine. If you were going for a swim and a meal I would say Go for it! But if you are thinking of staying... keep your money in your pocket! Unfortunately we ended... More
