We had an amazing nabe (Japanese hot pot), it was so fresh and delicious, loved it! The services were great, they were very polite and informative and helped where ever they could. The room was the garden side room, we didn't find the view to be that much different, but wasn't bad, would probably try the Japanese room next time.... More

We did a side trip from Hanmer Springs on a cold day when we were feeling like warming up in the pools. What a disappointment ! Decided to pay for the private pool as we hv done in the past. The rooms are so dirty, dated and mouldy. After our expensive 35 mins in there we went to the main... More

We were on the inland route from Kaikoura to Nelson, and had roiginally intended to stay in Hanmer Springs. With a cold drizzly day, we abandoned the Hanmer idea and decided to push on via the Lewis Pass. We came across the Maruia Springs in the middle of nowhere and decided to stop for lunch with the likeleyhood to stay... More

Firstly, I never want to post a bad review. I've had a lovely time traveling in NZ as always. I have read others experiences and hope we got them on a bad day, but I doubt it. We arrived paid our $66 for 3 and made our way down the pools. Beautiful garden, Bit dirty & dated. We got in... More

I booked the Onsen package for my partner and I - a nights accommodation, dinner, breakfast, private spa, and use of the hot pools. On arrival we both absolutely fell in love with the place! It is a very quirky NZ-Japanese mix situated in one of the most spectacular and remote parts of NZ. Very cool to learn that they... More

Stayed here for a treat, should not have bothered, no maintenance since it was bought by these owners in 1991, no cleaning appears to be done, messages everywhere saying don't do this or don't do that. If you want a green tea you have to traipse up to reception but it is shut. Pressured us to have a meal on... More

Beautiful setting, just stopped for the hot pools. Great experience for the children as the hot pools are natural, so yes we did come out smelling of sulphur, but so what. Changing rooms were fantastic - heated floors and very clean. Lady at reception explained about the colour of the pools.

We were having such a bad week in a really old and crappy abuzzy motorhome when we happened upon this hotel on the Lewis Pass road. It was a little like stepping into a time warp and coming out somewhere on Hokkaido really. The resort is a little dated but the facilities and food make up for that. The Onsen... More

Absolutely awful. We booked this as a special treat for 1 night as we were passing through the area. The thermal pools were very dirty and you really smelt of sulpur when you came out. The place was absolutely swarming with Mosquitos that you couldn't even leave your room without getting bitten. We were counting down until we could get... More

Booked online, taking my wife for a birthday treat to stay at Maruia Springs. After a long drive, arrived at what was to be a pleasant relaxing start to a weeks holiday. The reception area was dingy and cluttered with a "Garage sale"! We went to our Mountain View room - still looking for the Mountains? The room was old... More
