This is the second visit. This time we stayed in the Japanese room which was smaller and older than the mountain room we had previously stayed in. The massage chair in the Japanese room definitely made up for the older style room. I couldn't get my husband out of it. The food in the restaurant and the service by the... More

We just used the hot springs, we didn't stay, but next time I'd love to stay there - stunning location, the most idyllic hot springs imagineable! It was pouring with rain when we went, and there was mist coming down off the mountain, and we just settled down in the hot springs and enjoyed every minute! Perfect.

After reading mixed reviews (especially the many poor ones) I was a bit hesitant staying here, however it was the perfect stop from a late afternoon departure from Abel Tasman on our way to Christchurch (<3hrs). Note that you have to arrive before 7.30pm however. We stayed in a garden view room which was spacey and as you would expect... More

Arrived at Maruia Springs after spending a night at Hanmer Springs. Did not go to the thermal pools in Hanmer but sure did a dipping in the Maruia onsen. View of mountains, dip in the onsen is just so relaxing. Along the way to Maruia about 6 km, had a first time experiencing fresh snow fall probably due to previous... More

We stayed at the Maruia springs thermal resort overnight, taking the Shunzan package with a mountain view upgrade. What an amazing place! A beautifully appointed and cozy room. With views of the snow capped mountains. The hot pools and Japanese bath house were fabulous in their rustic naturalness. The package included dinner and breakfast. The Nabe pot for dinner was... My husband and I loved our Maruia Springs experience. The package that included garden view room, access to the pools, private spa, 3 course meal (we chose mostly Japanese and was wonderful) and breakfast was great value. For those reviewers who seem obsessed with the black alga ... Yes that's clearly explained as part of the natural water ! Duh.... More

Regrettably I won't visit these thermal pools again. the private pools are very run down. we previously had enjoyed the pools followed by a warm shower, before leaving, There is now no hot showers in the private rooms, you have to go to the other end of the complex to shower. the rooms are shabby, and neglected.

I have to say our visit to the springs was very, very disappointing. In fact I could not recommend it to anyone. Previously when the business was run by Kiwi’s it was first rate. We always used to stop there going to and from Christchurch for some beers, food, and a hot pool. They had full bar services, a fully... More

Must be one of the most expensive thermal pools around, and the pools while in a lovely location were very slippery and dirty with black algae everywhere that would not rinse off our togs which needed a full wash later at home to remove the black marks.Sandflies did not help the situation, maybe an outdoor bug killer required

Today I was part of an organised trip (40 people) that stopped for a soak at the pools. We were part of an event raising money for disadvantaged children and putting up regular reports on the internet. As there was no phone service we asked if we could use their internet to do this and despite having just spent $700+... More
