This accommodation didn't measure up to our expectations and in our opinion was a little over-priced for fairly basic facilities. The lodge and rooms were very clean but... Lots of pine, and I hate pine! They only catered for breakfast so we had to drive into Franz Josef for other meals. Service was basic. more

The Westwood Lodge in Franz Josef is a delightful hotel. We stayed in the main house for 2 nights and could not fault our stay. Clean, large and warm, this wooden lodge takes the stress out of travelling. Jacqui and Wendy were lovely hosts during our stay. We loved it and would recommend it to everyone. more

The hotel is constructed out of timber - all exposed, a great warm feeling, very "lodge" like. There are nice elegent touches around the place - nice artefacts, a great help-yourself well stocked bar in the lounge, nice fireplace, great views out to the glacier. Westwood Lodge is the BEST place to stay if you're visiting the Glaciers in either Franz Josef or Fox. All of the other lodging options paled in comparison when we saw what both towns had to offer. If you can afford it (we got a winter special), by all means, stay here if visiting Franz Josef. The room and bathroom are enormous, beautiful and comfortable. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful. The common living room with a fireplace and bar looked to be an inviting place to have a drink and relax. And the hosts are wonderfully gracious.... more

The Westwood Lodge is about 5-7 minutes driving outside the city and not in the main stretch of shops/restaurants around Franz Josef.
