We stayed our first night at the Bolton Hotel which is 5 star; the rooms were lovely but the walk into the main area was long. They didn't have a room for us the next night, so we checked on-line and booked the Abel Tasman at the last minute. We were both very surprised, it was cheap, yet the rooms... more

Great service by hotel staff, clean rooms with all the usual amenities. Restaurant/bar downstairs. Centrally located and very close to courtnay place. Secure. Higher floors still manage to be very quiet even though its in a busy part of town. Overall, I thought it was good value for the money I paid. more

I stayed here with some friends during a holiday. It was alright for the price but we stayed at another hotel for the last two nights that was much nicer for about $30 more. I would recommend paying the extra. Breakfast was included in the room rate which was nice--and the food service was good (but you don't have to... more

I stayed here in February 2007, on the way back from the South Island. This hotel would have to be one of the worst I have ever stayed at. Firstly, I put my bag on the bed and went to take a shower. No hot water, so I called reception asking whats the problem. I was told this happens now... more

I have never in my life, stayed in such an awful hotel as the Abel Tasman. The beds are very uncomfortable and the pillows are so flat and full of lumps, as to be completely useless. The window did not shut properly and we were awoken before 6am by workmen changing the giant billboard on the side of the building,... more

My friend and I took an incredible 3 1/2 week trip to Australia and New Zealand. The Abel Tasman was the worst hotel on the trip and for the price we paid, it was so NOT worth it. We were there on November 12-14th. First the hotel is VERY OLD and in need of great renovations. It's smells musty in... more

When we looked for a hotel in Wellington, we wanted to be able to walk to the restaurants on Cuba Street and to Te Papa. Also, off-street parking had to be available. It seemed that most downtown hotels were quite pricey, and the cheaper motels were not close enough to walk easily to town. I found this hotel on the... more
