This is the second time I have stayed at the Halswell. It was cheap(ish) but clean, cheerful and helpful staff, close to Te Papa, the restaurants and bars of Courtney Place and would have been close to the Wellington Regional Council offices, where I was going, if they hadn't moved temporarily to the docks.

Ok for the price you pay. Location is more an advantage- smack in the heart of city. Staff is nice and helpful. Not exactly suitable if you travelling with family or travelers who are expecting more from accommodation.

The Halswell lodge is a older place which I have stayed in Previous years. But the last time we had problems with parking and the booking system they use.We booked over the net and gave our credit card to confirm the booking which was ok'ed the night before. When we arrived the reception person told us they had double booked... More

Apparently there are two sets of accommodations here, one for budget travelers one for standard travelers, having said that, we still paid close to $100/night for a budget room (which I didn't know at the time when booked), and which was the worst night of my life. The twin room was smaller than a high school twin shared dome, for... More

My room was very small, surprisingly small in fact. The windows were at street level and neither shut properly so I was concerned about leaving valuables in the room. The bed was comfortable enough. Shower a strong point, better pressure than most hotels. The bathroom wasn't clean, there was a mess in the sink when I arrived. The TV was... More

Accommodation is quirky, spa bath lovely. Our window didn't shut fully & with access via the roof to our room we didn't feel it safe to leave our valuables, since we only stayed overnight didn't feel to make a complaint. Bed comfortable. Warning the bedside lamp is touch sensitive not possessed! The historic decor gave a spooky vibe although too... More

We booked a double hotel room which was in the front so traffic noises all night from the main road even with the window closed. The room was so small, bed pushed up against the wall, tiny bathroom where almost impossible to brush your teeth in the narrow basin with a dangerous glass shelf about 12 inches above it. One... Stayed here 10th and 11th of October, booked a lodge room. Had a king size bed, spa bath, and overlooked the carpark and city. Room size was large and had a small balcony. Bed was very comfortable. Dissapointed with bed covers which looked to have dried blood and chocolate stains in plain sight. Ceiling had beautiful old style ornate patterns... More

Spent the weekend here like we have many times before but this time I felt the unit was very tired, in need of maintenance and the servicing was under parr. A two bedroom unit which takes five people, yet a mix match of crockery for only three people? Only one hotplate worked on the stove, and no toaster. When our... More

We got a great deal for 2 nights. Our room was tidy and had a TV, coffee, jug, the comfiest bed ever! A nice hot shower with good pressure and a small balcony. The reception staff and housekeepers were lovely and smiley. We were only about a 10 minute walk to te papa or Cuba St. Plenty of offstreet parking... More
