The best thing about the Duxton is the location, a few steps away from Te Papa, 5 minute stroll to the great cafes in Cuba Street and taxi rank outside for trips afield. It is getting a little dated, but was clean and tidy. Loved the warm wool blankets and bed was comfortable. Room was spacious enough but we didnt... more

I previously stayed at the Duxton in October 2008. Although we enjoyed the new prototype club room(it seems they have been slow to complete or even start the complete hotel upgrade as they told us then) we experienced real problems with service at every aspect from checkin(our room was not ready at 4 pm and we were told our bags... more

Positives: good bed, perfect views, relatively quiet, great location. Negatives: bathroom clearly dated, wind rattling at windows, some plumbing noises. Overall, this certainly wasn't the worst hotel stay ever. Staff was accommodating, room relatively large and comfortable. The oddest thing were the floors, which were extremely uneven perceivable even through the carpet. Bathroom in need of some tender loving care... more

You know...sometimes, you think, I'll spend a little more on a good hotel, so I'll just take the bus from the airport rather than pay for an extra day of car rental ? Did this and booked what I thought was a 5 star hotel (self rated) at a very good room rate at the Duxton for 4 nights. Was... more

I was travelling with a friend and stayed two nights at the Duxton and the hotel was fantastic. If you are looking for a wonderful view from your window, clean facilities and helpful staff, this is the hotel to stay at when in Wellington. When we arriived we were staying in a smoking section of the hotel and as non... more

I booked online, and the site I booked from (wotif) said that breakfast was included - when I checked with the lady on checking in - she confirmed - when I checked out they said this was not the case. As it was $33.50 I was most displeased - they didn't honour this. So beware. more

I was recently in Wellington on business and due to a very late booking was only able to stay at my preferred hotel for one night. I was therefore booked by my Company to stay on the Club Floor of the Duxton for the remainder of my trip. As I had previously already stayed here before, I knew what to... more

We were so disappointed with this Hotel that after checking in and being shown to our room we cancelled our stay and moved to the Bolton (which is lovely) for the same price. The rooms were probably 20 years out of date are filthy. We found hair in the bathroom, on the desk chair and the sofa, food on the... more

We stayed in the Duxton in Wellington during our recent trip to New Zealand and were pleasantly surprised. The service was excellent throughout the hotel, and it has an excellent restaurant. Best of all were the views from the room. We were lucky enough to have one of those fine sunny days in Wellington and we spent quite some time... more
