I have stayed at this hotel several times over the 15 years I have been in Wellington. Although named Duxton on here it has recently been bought by the Amora chain of hotels. Duxton have moved out of the area because there is going to be an apartment development right in front of the hotel in the future which will... more

This place has got to be the biggest pretender hotel I have ever been in. I thought this would be a nice place to stay and the price certainly suggested it would be.. First the room was incredibly tired, the bathroom smelt like it had not been cleaned in weeks the carpet was threadbare, the tv is small, old and... more

My second annual work trip here, and only because it has good conference rooms. This time my bosses boss stayed here and he recommended we stay somewhere else next year. Maybe they stick the work travellers in the crummy rooms? Upon entering the room, I was greeted with a cheap smelling fragrance that was attempting to mask someones mishap. Adding... more

I stayed with my partner 6 days in September at the Duxton while I accompanied him on a business trip. Our room was on the 5th floor, so we had a lovely view across the bay towards the Hutt Valley and the mountains behind. The hotel is just around the corner of work, so it is very convenient for him... more

This hotel is faded and tired and is overdue for refurbishment. We had no issue with either the staff or the cleanliness of the hotel. However, the common areas and rooms are scruffy and the carpets are stained. The corridor to our room also smelt of smoke. When we opened the door to our room we were greeted by a... more

The room was very bad with carpet frayed and paint actually peeling from the bathroom ceiling. Stains on the furniture capped off a very bad room. I complained and even though apparantly upgraded it was only marginally better. A once good hotel that is now very shabby more

Stayed two nights in a non-smoking room and there was a strong smell of cigarette smoke in the bathroom. Suspicions were confirmed when I found a crumpled cigarette box in the rubbish bin that housekeeping had failed to clean outafter the last occupant. Bathrooms are tired looking and half of the bathroom products were missing or empty. Breakfast is way... more

We booked on lastminute.com.au and were disappointed. They rate themselves 5 stars, but are more 4 stars. Rooms need a decent coat of paint and bathrooms need maintenance. Halls smelt of cigarette smoke, looked like a throwback to the 70's too... Very disappointed, wouldn't recommend this hotel, would stay at the Boulcott Hotel for the same price! more

The best thing about the Duxton is the location, a few steps away from Te Papa, 5 minute stroll to the great cafes in Cuba Street and taxi rank outside for trips afield. It is getting a little dated, but was clean and tidy. Loved the warm wool blankets and bed was comfortable. Room was spacious enough but we didnt... more

I previously stayed at the Duxton in October 2008. Although we enjoyed the new prototype club room(it seems they have been slow to complete or even start the complete hotel upgrade as they told us then) we experienced real problems with service at every aspect from checkin(our room was not ready at 4 pm and we were told our bags... more
